Abstract

An electronic device including: one or more processors to control operations thereof, to simultaneously process multiple wireless signals received from a plurality of multimedia devices transmitting streaming media content and to transmit the processed wireless signals to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices; a storage device to store received broadcast media content; and a network controller to wirelessly receive streaming broadcast media content from a plurality of broadcast media sources, to provide a wired and a wireless connectivity to the plurality of multimedia devices, to exchange media processing capabilities between the electronic device and the plurality of multimedia devices after establishing network connections therebetween, to receive a wireless signal including streaming media content from at least one of the plurality of multimedia devices, and to stream a processed version of the received wireless signal including streaming media content to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices, the processed version of the received wireless signal including streaming media content being processed based on the received media processing capabilities of the multimedia device receiving the transmitted wireless signal including streaming media content.

Claims (29)

1. An electronic device to provide multimedia content, comprising:

one or more processors to control operations thereof, to simultaneously process multiple wireless signals received from a plurality of multimedia devices transmitting streaming media content and to transmit the processed wireless signals to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices;

a storage device to store received broadcast media content; and

a network controller to wirelessly receive streaming broadcast media content from a plurality of broadcast media sources, to provide a wired and a wireless connectivity to the plurality of multimedia devices, to exchange media processing capabilities between the electronic device and the plurality of multimedia devices after establishing network connections therebetween, to receive a wireless signal including streaming media content from at least one of the plurality of multimedia devices, and to stream a processed version of the received wireless signal including streaming media content to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices, the processed version of the received wireless signal including streaming media content being processed based on the received media processing capabilities of the multimedia device receiving the transmitted wireless signal including streaming media content.

2. The electronic device according to claim 1 , comprising one of a set-top box, a multimedia communications device or an extended connectivity multimedia device.

3. The electronic device according to claim 1 , wherein the connectivity with the plurality of multimedia devices is capable of being established through a USB connection, a wireless Internet connection, or a near-field connection (NFC), where at least one of the plurality of multimedia devices pairs with the multimedia content electronic device for connectivity by tapping the multimedia content electronic device against the multimedia content electronic device.

4. The electronic device according to claim 3 , wherein the network controller is further configured to receive control signals together with the received wireless signal including streaming media content from the plurality of multimedia devices and to transmit a processed version of the control signals to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices receiving the transmitted wireless signal including streaming media content, the control signals being displayed on the plurality of multimedia devices receiving the streaming media content and configured to control viewing of the streaming media content on the transmitting multimedia device.

5. The electronic device according to claim 4 , wherein the control signals can control operations including: play, pause, fast forward, rewind, stop, skip back, and skip forward of the streaming media content.

6. A system to communicate broadcast media content between an electronic device to provide multimedia content and a plurality of multimedia devices, the system comprising:

an electronic device to provide multimedia content comprising:

one or more processors to control operations thereof, to simultaneously process multiple wireless signals received from a plurality of multimedia devices transmitting streaming media content and to transmit the processed wireless signals to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices;

a storage device to store received broadcast media content; and

a network controller to wirelessly receive streaming media content from a plurality of broadcast media sources, to provide a wired and a wireless connectivity to the plurality of multimedia devices, to exchange media processing capabilities between the electronic device and the plurality of multimedia devices after establishing network connections therebetween, to receive a wireless signal including streaming media content from at least one of the plurality of multimedia devices, and to transmit a processed version of the received wireless signal including streaming media content to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices, the processed version of the received wireless signal including broadcast media content being processed based on the received media processing capabilities of the multimedia device receiving the transmitted wireless signal including streaming media content; and

a plurality of multimedia devices each configured to initiate a connection with the electronic device and to exchange the media processing capabilities with the electronic device after establishing a connection and to transmit streaming media content to the electronic device once connectivity is established.

7. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the electronic device is one of a set-top box, a multimedia communications device or an extended connectivity multimedia device.

8. The system according to claim 6 , wherein the connectivity with the plurality of multimedia devices is capable of being established through a USB connection, a wireless Internet connection, and a near-field connection (NFC), wherein the NFC connection is established by tapping the electronic device with one of the plurality of multimedia devices.

9. The system according to claim 8 , wherein the network controller is further configured to receive control signals together with the received wireless signal including streaming broadcast media content from the plurality of multimedia devices and to transmit a processed version of the control signals to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices receiving the transmitted wireless signal including streaming media content, the control signals being displayed on the plurality of multimedia devices receiving the streaming media content and configured to control viewing of the streaming media content on the transmitting multimedia device.

10. The system according to claim 9 , wherein the control signals can control operations including: play, pause, fast forward, rewind, stop, skip back, and skip forward of the streaming media content.

11. A method of exchanging streaming media content with a plurality of multimedia devices at a multimedia content electronic device, the method comprising:

wirelessly receiving streaming broadcast media content from plural broadcast media sources;

providing a wired and a wireless connectivity to the plurality of multimedia devices;

exchanging media processing capabilities with the plurality of multimedia devices after establishing network connections therebetween;

receiving a wireless signal including streaming media content from at least one of the plurality of multimedia devices;

processing the wireless signals received from at least one of the plurality of multimedia devices transmitting streaming media content at the multimedia content electronic device;

storing the processed wireless signals received from at least one of the plurality of multimedia devices; and

streaming a processed version of the received wireless signal including streaming media content to another one of the plurality of multimedia devices, the processed version of the received wireless signal including streaming media content being processed based on the received media processing capabilities of the multimedia device receiving the transmitted wireless signal including streaming media content.

12. The method according to claim 11 , wherein the connectivity with the plurality of multimedia devices is capable of being established through a USB connection, a wireless Internet connection, or a near-field connection (NFC), where pairing with the plurality of multimedia device pairs for connectivity is established by being tapped with the electronic device.
