Abstract

A pump rod has a head extending from a neck, and the head is received within a drive slot of a drive link. The head includes a projection, and has an area smaller than an area of the head. The projection contacts an inner surface of the drive slot. The drive link may include a projection aligned with a centerline of the drive link. The drive link projection contacts a head of the pump rod. The projections provide a reduced contact area between the pump rod and the drive link, thereby reducing any side-loading on the pump rod and increasing a lifespan of the wear parts.

Claims (31)

1. A fluid spraying system comprising:

a displacement pump having a cylinder housing mountable to a frame to be supported by the frame and a pump rod at least partially disposed in the cylinder housing, the pump rod configured to reciprocate within the cylinder housing along a pump axis to cause the displacement pump to pump fluid, and the pump rod comprising:

a shaft extending out of the cylinder;

a neck formed at a first end of the shaft disposed outside of the cylinder housing, the neck having a neck width; and

a head having a head width larger than the neck width, wherein the head is disposed at an end of the neck opposite the first end of the shaft;

a driver connectable to the pump rod to drive reciprocation of the pump rod, the driver comprising:

a drive link body having a first end and a second end;

a receiving cavity formed in the first end of the drive link body, the receiving cavity extending partially into the drive link body and including a first opening, a second opening, a first surface opposite the first opening, the first surface forming a contact surface, and a second surface opposite the second opening;

wherein a flange is formed at the first end, the flange defining the first opening;

wherein the head is configured to slide laterally through the second opening and relative to the pump axis and within the receiving cavity to mount to and dismount from the driver, wherein the pump rod extends through the first opening, and wherein the head is configured to directly interface with the flange and the contact surface.

2. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein a projection extends from a top surface of the head and is aligned on the pump axis, the projection configured to directly interface with the contact surface.

3. The fluid spraying system of claim 2 , wherein a circular load bearing surface is formed on the projection, the circular load bearing surface configured to directly interface with the contact surface.

4. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein the driver includes a connecting slot extending into the second end.

5. The fluid spraying system of claim 4 , wherein a connecting rod is attached to the driver within the connecting slot, the connecting rod configured to cause reciprocation of the driver.

6. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein the neck extends through the first opening.

7. The fluid spraying system of claim 6 , wherein the flange is U-shaped.

8. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein a fluid passage is formed in an end of the pump rod opposite the head.

9. The fluid spraying system of claim 8 , wherein the fluid passage is formed in a second end of the shaft, the second end disposed opposite the first end.

10. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein the driver is connected to a crankshaft to cause reciprocation of the driver.

11. The fluid spraying system of claim 10 , wherein a connecting rod extends between the crankshaft and the driver to connect the crankshaft and the driver.

12. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein an interface between the driver and the pump rod is disposed in a mounting cavity formed in a drive housing, the drive housing supported by the frame.

13. The fluid spraying system of claim 12 , wherein the pump rod extends out of the drive housing through a first opening of the drive housing.

14. The fluid spraying system of claim 13 , wherein the pump rod is configured to enter into the mounting cavity through a second opening of the drive housing.

15. The fluid spraying system of claim 14 , wherein a guard is hingedly connected to the drive housing and is movable between a closed position, covering the second opening of the drive housing, and an open position.

16. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , further comprising:

an intake hose connected to the cylinder housing, the intake hose configured to extend into a container to directly contact spray fluid within the container.

17. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein the displacement pump is a double displacement pump configured to output spray fluid during both an upstroke of the pump rod and a downstroke of the pump rod.

18. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a motor supported by the frame, the motor operatively connected to the driver to cause reciprocation of the driver.

19. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein the cylinder housing is supported by a drive housing, wherein the driver extends through an opening in the drive housing to a mounting cavity, and wherein the head interfaces with the receiving cavity within the mounting cavity.

20. The fluid spraying system of claim 1 , wherein a load concentrating feature is formed on one of the contact surface and a top surface of the head, wherein a width of the load concentrating feature is smaller than the width of the head, wherein the load concentrating feature spaces the contact surface from the top surface, and wherein the load concentrating feature is circular and aligned on the pump axis.
