Abstract

Systems and methods for facilitating access to shooting statistics data for a basketball player are provided. A user interface receives a user selection of identifying information for the basketball player and a subset of plurality of pass receipt locations located about a basketball playing surface for an ejector to pass said basketballs to as part of a basketball practice drill for the basketball player. A detector detects passage of basketballs through a rim of a basketball goal to indicate a made basketball shot. A control system commands the ejector to launch at least one basketball towards each pass receipt location in the subset. One or more remote electronic devices electronically store data indicating the player's success in making shots from the pass receipt location in the subset in association with the identifying information.

Claims (56)

1. A system for facilitating remote access to shooting data and practice session replication, said system comprising:

a first portable basketball launching machine comprising:

a ball ejector for launching basketballs toward selected one or ones of a plurality of pass receipt locations located at a basketball playing surface;

a user interface configured to receive a user selection of a subset of said plurality of pass receipt locations for said ball ejector to pass said basketballs to as part of a basketball practice drill for a basketball player and identifying information for said basketball player;

a detector configured to detect made basketball goals; and

a control system configured to receive data from said user interface indicating said user selection and command said ball ejector to launch at least one basketball towards each of said plurality of pass receipt locations in said subset for said basketball player to catch and shoot towards a basketball goal;

a second portable basketball launching machine; and

a remote server in wireless electronic communication with said portable basketball launching machine and said second portable basketball launching machine, said remote server configured to:

for said basketball practice drill and based on data from said detector, electronically store data indicating said basketball player's success in making basketball goals in association with data indicating said plurality of pass receipt locations in said subset, wherein said data is electronically stored in association with data indicating said identifying information for said basketball player;

receive, from the first portable basketball launching machine, data indicating said locations forming part of said basketball practice drill for said basketball player;

transmit data indicating said locations forming part of said basketball practice drill for said basketball player to said second portable basketball launching machine for passing to a second basketball player at said second portable basketball launching machine, wherein said second portable basketball launching machine is configured to automatically self-program to launch at least one basketball to each of said locations indicated in said data following receipt of, and in accordance with, said data from the remote server; and

electronically store data indicating said second basketball player's success in making basketball goals at said second portable basketball launching machine.

2. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said identifying information for said basketball player comprises name and team information.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein:

said data stored at said remote server comprises names, team information, and data indicating success in making basketball goals in association with various ones of said plurality of pass receipt locations for a number of additional basketball players of a number of teams.

4. The system of claim 3 wherein:

said remote server is configured to host a website for displaying said electronically stored data or make said electronically stored data available on an application installed on a smartphone.

5. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said portable basketball launching machine further comprises:

a wireless communication device configured to facilitate electronic communication between at least said control system and said remote server;

a structural assembly connecting said ball ejector, said user interface, said control system, and said wireless communication device;

wheels attached to said structural assembly for moving said structural assembly about the basketball playing surface; and

a collection net assembly connected to said structural assembly and configured to catch at least some of said basketballs thrown towards said basketball goal and return captured ones of said basketballs to said ball ejector.

6. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said user interface comprises a number of selectable locations arranged about a rendering of a three-point arc to visually correspond with each of said plurality of pass receipt locations on a one-to-one basis.

7. The system of claim 6 wherein:

said remote server is configured to generate a website displaying a second rendering of said three-point arc and visually display numbers or percentages of made goals at said second rendering at locations visually corresponding to associated ones of said plurality of pass receipt locations in said subset.

8. The system of claim 4 wherein:

said remote server is configured to generate, at said website, summary information regarding said made goals.

9. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said user interface comprises an input area for selecting pre-programmed drills; and

said control system is configured to command said ball ejector to pass said basketballs in accordance with one of said pre-programmed drills upon selection of said input area.

10. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said data stored at said remote server comprises historical data regarding said basketball player's success in making basketball goals from various ones of said plurality of pass receipt locations stored in association with said identifying information for said basketball player; and

said remote server is configured to make said historical data available for display to a remote user.

11. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said remote server is in electronic communication with said control system; and

said control system is configured to process said data from said detector prior to transmission to said remote server.

12. The system of claim 1 wherein:

said detector comprises a photo sensor.

13. A system for facilitating remote access to shooting data for a plurality of basketball players and practice session replication, said system comprising:

a plurality of portable basketball launching machines, each comprising:

a ball ejector configured to launch basketballs toward selected one or ones of a plurality of pass receipt locations located at a basketball playing surface;

a user interface configured to receive a user selection of a subset of said plurality of pass receipt locations for said ball ejector to pass said basketballs for a respective one of said basketball players, and identifying information for said respective one of said basketball players;

a detector configured to detect made basketball goals;

a control system configured to receive data from said user interface indicating said user selection and command said ball ejector to launch at least one basketball towards each of said plurality of pass receipt locations in said subset for said respective one of said basketball players to catch and shoot towards a basketball goal; and

a wireless communication device;

a remote server configured to, for said basketball passes made with said plurality of portable basketball launching machines, and based on data from said detectors and said user interfaces by way of said wireless communication devices of said plurality of portable basketball launching machines, electronically store data indicating said basketball players' respective successes in making said basketball goals in association with data indicating said plurality of pass receipt location in said subset in association with data indicating said identifying information for said basketball players, render said data stored at said remote server accessible to one or more remote user electronic devices, receive data from a given one of said plurality of portable basketball launching machines regarding said user selection of said subset of said plurality of pass receipt locations, and transmit said data to at least one other one of said plurality of portable basketball launching machines, wherein each of said plurality of portable basketball launching machines are configured to, following receipt of said data from said remote server, automatically self-program to launch at least one basketball to each of the plurality of pass receipt locations in the subset to replicate the user selection data received at said given one of said plurality of portable basketball launching machines.
