Abstract

A packaging system included a support member and a packing component. The support member includes a base, a head portion, and a leg. The head portion extends from the base in a first direction. The leg extends from the base in a second direction opposite the first direction. The packing component includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion defines a first aperture configured to receive the leg. The second portion defines a second aperture configured to receive the head portion.

Claims (30)

1. A method of assembling a packaging system, comprising:

utilizing a first packing component panel part that includes at least a first set of apertures arranged in a first configuration and a second set of apertures arranged in a second configuration;

utilizing a second packing component panel part that includes a first opening shaped to receive a first head portion and a second opening shaped to receive a second head portion;

utilizing a first support member having a first base, the first head portion and a first set of legs, the first head portion extending from the first base in a first direction and the first set of legs extending from the first base in a second direction opposite the first direction, the first set of legs arranged in a configuration that matches the first configuration;

utilizing a second support member having a second base, the second head portion and a second set of legs, the second head portion extending from the second base in a first direction and the second set of legs extending from the second base in a second direction opposite the first direction, the second set of legs arranged in a configuration that matches the second configuration;

positioning the first set of legs of the first support member into the first set of apertures and positioning the second set of legs of the second support member into the second set of apertures to position the second support member on the first packing component panel; and

engaging the second packing component panel part against the first packing component panel part with the first head portion projecting through the first opening and with the second head portion projecting through the second opening, and with edge portions of the first opening engaged with the first base to retain the first support member in place and with edge portions of the second opening engaged with the second base to retain the second support member in place, with the second support member spaced apart from the first support member.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first packing component panel part and the second packing component panel part are connected to each other along a fold axis.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein at least one aperture of the first set of apertures overlaps with the fold axis.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising placing a further packing component in a position spaced apart from and above the first head portion and the second head portion.

5. A method of assembling a packaging system, comprising:

utilizing a first support member having a first base, a first head portion and a first set of legs, the first head portion extending upward from the first base and the first set of legs extending downward from the first base;

utilizing a second support member having a second base, a second head portion and a second set of legs, the second head portion extending upward from the second base and the second set of legs extending downward from the second base;

utilizing a first packing component panel part that includes at least a first set of apertures and a second set of apertures;

utilizing a second packing component panel part that includes a first opening shaped to receive the first head portion and a second opening shaped to receive the second head portion;

engaging the first support member and the second support member with the first packing component panel part and the second packing component panel part such that (i) the first set of legs of the first support member are positioned in the first set of apertures, (ii) the second set of legs of the second support member are positioned in the second set of apertures, (iii) the first head portion projects through the first opening, (iv) the second head portion projects through the second opening, (v) part of the first support member is held between the first packing component panel part and the second packing component panel part to retain the first support member in place and (vi) part of the second support member is held between the first packing component panel part and the second packing component panel part to retain the second support member in place.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first packing component panel part and the second packing component panel part are connected to each other along a fold axis.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein at least one aperture of the first set of apertures overlaps with the fold axis.

8. The method of claim 5 , further comprising positioning an item to be transported down onto the first head portion and the second head portion for support thereby.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising placing a further packing component in a position spaced apart from the first head portion and the second head portion and above the item to be transported.

10. The method of claim 5 , wherein an arrangement of the first set of apertures is different than an arrangement of the second set of apertures.

11. The method of claim 5 wherein a configuration of the first head portion is different than a configuration of the second head portion.

12. A method of assembling a packaging system, comprising:

utilizing a first support member having a first base, a first head portion and at least one first leg, the first head portion extending upward from the first base and the at least one first leg extending downward from the first base;

utilizing a second support member having a second base, a second head portion and at least one second leg, the second head portion extending upward from the second base and the at least one second leg extending downward from the second base, a configuration of the second head portion being different than a configuration of the first head portion;

utilizing a first packing component panel part that includes at least one first aperture and at least one second aperture;

utilizing a second packing component panel part that includes a first opening shaped to receive the first head portion and a second opening shaped to receive the second head portion;

engaging the first support member and the second support member with the first packing component panel part and the second packing component panel part such that (i) the at least one first leg of the first support member is positioned in the at least one first aperture, (ii) the at least one second leg of the second support member is positioned in the at least one second aperture, (iii) the first head portion projects through the first opening, (iv) the second head portion projects through the second opening, (v) part of the first support member is held between the first packing component panel part and the second packing component panel part to retain the first support member in place and (vi) part of the second support member is held between the first packing component panel part and the second packing component panel part to retain the second support member in place.

13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising positioning an item to be transported down onto the first head portion and the second head portion for support thereby.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising placing a further packing component in a position spaced apart from the first head portion and the second head portion and above the item to be transported.
