Abstract

A prosthesis for implantation at a native semilunar valve includes a prosthetic distal valve, which includes a pliant material configured to collapse inwardly towards a longitudinal axis of the prosthesis during diastole, and to open outwardly during systole, and a distal fixation member configured to be positioned in a downstream artery of the subject. The apparatus also includes a proximal fixation member coupled to the distal fixation member, and configured to be positioned at least partially on a ventricular side of the native semilunar valve. The proximal fixation member is shaped so as to define a lattice that is shaped so as to define an intermediary portion that is coupled to the pliant material of the valve and diverges outwardly from the longitudinal axis, and a distal portion that is distal to the intermediary portion and diverges outwardly from the intermediary portion of the lattice. Other embodiments are also described.

Claims (38)

1. A valve prosthesis comprising:

a support structure;

a prosthetic valve including prosthetic leaflets;

a graft covering attached to an interior surface of the support structure, the interior surface being a surface of the support structure closest to a central longitudinal axis of the support structure; and

connectors attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering,

wherein the connectors are not directly attached to the support structure.

2. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the connectors are sutures.

3. The valve prosthesis of claim 1 , wherein the graft covering is directly attached to the interior surface the support structure.

4. A valve prosthesis comprising:

a support structure;

a prosthetic valve including prosthetic leaflets;

a graft covering coupled to an interior surface of the support structure; and

connectors attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering,

wherein the connectors are not directly attached to the support structure, wherein the connectors are sutures, and

wherein the sutures are located between lattice members of the support structure.

5. The valve prosthesis of claim 4 , wherein the sutures attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering not being directly attached to the support structure provides strain relief to a joint formed by the sutures attaching the prosthetic leaflets to the graft covering.

6. A valve prosthesis comprising:

a support structure;

a prosthetic valve including prosthetic leaflets; and

a graft covering attached to an interior surface of the support structure, the interior surface being a surface of the support structure closest to a central longitudinal axis of the support structure,

wherein the graft covering is attached to the prosthetic valve leaflets along a joint line, and

wherein the joint line is not directly attached to the support structure.

7. The valve prosthesis of claim 6 , wherein the joint line is formed by sutures attaching the graft covering to the prosthetic leaflets.

8. The valve prosthesis of claim 7 , wherein the sutures are not directly attached to lattice members of the support structure.

9. The valve prosthesis of claim 6 , wherein

the support structure includes commissure supports and lattice members,

the prosthetic leaflets are joined at commissures,

the commissures are coupled to the commissure supports, and

the prosthetic leaflets are not directly attached to the lattice members.

10. The valve prosthesis of claim 9 , wherein the graft covering is directly attached to the lattice members.

11. A valve prosthesis comprising:

a support structure including commissure supports and lattice members, wherein each commissure support comprises two bars with a space therebetween, wherein the two bars are not connected to each other at a terminal outflow end thereof; and

a prosthetic valve including prosthetic leaflets disposed within the support structure, wherein ends of adjacent prosthetic leaflets are joined to each other at the commissure supports.

12. The valve prosthesis of claim 11 , wherein the ends of the adjacent prosthetic leaflets extend between the two bars of each of the commissure supports.

13. The valve prosthesis of claim 12 , further comprising a support material wrapped around each of the two bars of each commissure.

14. The valve prosthesis of claim 13 , further comprising support plates, wherein each support plate is disposed exterior to a corresponding commissure support, wherein the ends of the adjacent prosthetic leaflets are coupled to a corresponding support plate.

15. The valve prosthesis of claim 12 , further comprising support plates, wherein each support plate is disposed exterior to a corresponding commissure support, wherein the ends of the adjacent prosthetic leaflets are coupled to a corresponding support plate.

16. The valve prosthesis of claim 11 , wherein the ends of the adjacent prosthetic leaflets are coupled to the commissure supports.
