Abstract

A patient interface is configured to deliver pressurized breathable gas to a patient's airways and includes a flexible cushion forming at least a portion of a plenum chamber. A pair of flexible receptacles are integrally formed with the flexible cushion and are formed on opposite lateral sides of the flexible cushion. Each flexible receptacle includes an inner wall that forms an opening configured to receive an air delivery tube and an outer wall that is radially offset from the inner wall. The outer wall extends laterally beyond the inner wall on a posterior side of the flexible receptacle and does not extend laterally beyond the inner wall on an anterior side of the flexible receptacle. The patient interface further includes a gas washout vent, a support structure that is attached to and is more rigid than the flexible cushion, and a pair of headgear connectors located on opposing lateral sides of the support structure.

Claims (39)

1. A patient interface configured to deliver pressurized breathable gas to a patient's airways, the patient interface comprising:

a flexible cushion forming at least a portion of a plenum chamber and configured to sealingly engage a portion of the patient's face including a portion of the patient's nose and/or a portion adjacent the patient's nose;

a pair of flexible receptacles integrally formed with the flexible cushion and formed on opposite lateral sides of the flexible cushion, each flexible receptacle comprising an inner wall that forms an opening configured to receive an air delivery tube and an outer wall that is radially offset from the inner wall, wherein the outer wall extends laterally beyond the inner wall on a posterior side of the flexible receptacle and does not extend laterally beyond the inner wall on an anterior side of the flexible receptacle;

a gas washout vent;

a support structure that is attached to and is more rigid than the flexible cushion; and

a pair of headgear connectors located on opposing lateral sides of the support structure.

2. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the flexible cushion is configured to be decoupled from a drag force from the air delivery tube.

3. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the flexible cushion is configured to be decoupled from tension applied to lateral ends of the patient interface.

4. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the gas washout vent is positioned between the pair of flexible receptacles.

5. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the gas washout vent comprises an array of vent holes.

6. A patient interface assembly comprising:

the patient interface of claim 1 ;

an air delivery tube configured to deliver the pressurized breathable gas to the patient interface; and

headgear configured to support the patient interface on the patient's head, the headgear comprising at least one headgear strap configured to be secured to the pair of headgear connectors on the support structure.

7. The patient interface assembly of claim 6 , wherein the pair of headgear connectors and the at least one headgear strap are configured to be secured together by way of a recess and protrusion arrangement which a protrusion is inserted into a recess.

8. The patient interface assembly of claim 6 , wherein the air delivery tube comprises a flange that is positioned to act as a mechanical stop when the air delivery tube is inserted into one of the flexible receptacles.

9. The patient interface assembly of claim 6 , wherein the air delivery tube comprises a headgear connector, and the at least one headgear strap comprises a headgear strap that is attachable to the air delivery tube at the headgear connector on the air delivery tube.

10. The patient interface assembly of claim 6 , wherein the air delivery tube is configured to extend along the patient's head toward the top of the patient's head.

11. A patient interface assembly configured to deliver pressurized breathable gas to a patient's airways, the patient interface assembly comprising:

a flexible cushion configured to sealingly engage a portion of the patient's face including a portion of the patient's nose and/or a portion adjacent the patient's nose, the flexible cushion comprising a pair of flexible receptacles on opposite lateral sides of the flexible cushion, each flexible receptacle being configured to receive an air delivery tube and comprising a pair of concentric walls that includes an inner wall and an outer wall, wherein the outer wall extends laterally beyond the inner wall on a posterior side of the flexible receptacle and does not extend laterally beyond the inner wall on an anterior side of the flexible receptacle;

a gas washout vent; and

a support structure that is more rigid than the flexible cushion and is attached to the flexible cushion, the support structure comprising a pair of headgear connectors located on opposing lateral sides of the support structure.

12. The patient interface assembly of claim 11 , further comprising headgear configured to support the patient interface on the patient's head, the headgear comprising at least one headgear strap configured to be secured to the pair of headgear connectors on the support structure.

13. The patient interface assembly of claim 12 , wherein the pair of headgear connectors and the at least one headgear strap are configured to be secured together by way of a recess and protrusion arrangement which a protrusion is inserted into a recess.

14. The patient interface assembly of claim 11 , further comprising an air delivery tube configured to deliver the pressurized breathable gas to the flexible cushion.

15. The patient interface assembly of claim 14 , wherein the air delivery tube comprises a flange that is positioned to act as a mechanical stop when the air delivery tube is inserted into one of the flexible receptacles.

16. The patient interface assembly of claim 14 , wherein the air delivery tube comprises an additional headgear connector.

17. The patient interface assembly of claim 14 , wherein the air delivery tube is configured to extend along the patient's head toward the top of the patient's head.

18. The patient interface assembly of claim 11 , wherein the gas washout vent is positioned between the pair of flexible receptacles.

19. The patient interface assembly of claim 11 , wherein the gas washout vent comprises an array of vent holes.

20. The patient interface assembly of claim 11 , further comprising:

headgear configured to support the patient interface on the patient's head, the headgear comprising at least one headgear strap configured to be secured to the pair of headgear connectors on the support structure; and

an air delivery tube configured to deliver the pressurized breathable gas to the flexible cushion,

wherein the pair of headgear connectors and the at least one headgear strap are configured to be secured together by way of a recess and protrusion arrangement which a protrusion is inserted into a recess,

wherein the air delivery tube comprises a flange that is positioned to act as a mechanical stop when the air delivery tube is inserted into one of the flexible receptacles,

wherein the air delivery tube comprises a headgear connector, and the at least one headgear strap comprises a headgear strap that is attachable to the air delivery tube at the headgear connector on the air delivery tube,

wherein the air delivery tube is configured to extend along the patient's head toward the top of the patient's head,

wherein the gas washout vent is positioned between the pair of flexible receptacles, and

wherein the gas washout vent comprises an array of vent holes.
