Abstract

Synthetic cannabinoid compounds for treatment of epilepsy, substance addiction, and Alzheimer's disease by administering to an individual in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition including a compound having the structure: or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle therefor.

Claims (17)

1. A method of treating epilepsy comprising administering to an individual in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound having the structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle therefor.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition contains a racemic mixture of enantiomers having the structures:

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition contains at least about 99% enantiomeric purity, having the structure:

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle is a capsule, tablet, syrup, lozenge, inhaler, e-cigarette, chewable gum, nasal spray, transdermal patch, liquid, transmucosal vehicle, hydrogel, nanosome, liposome, noisome, nanoparticle, nanosphere, microsphere, microparticle, microemulsion, nanosuspension, or micelle.

5. A method of treating Alzheimer's disease comprising administering to an individual in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound having the structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle therefor.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the treating prevents development of social recognition deficit in the individual.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition is administered in early stages of Alzheimer's disease.

8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition contains a racemic mixture of enantiomers having the structures:

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition contains at least about 99% enantiomeric purity, having the structure:

10. The method of claim 5 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle is a capsule, tablet, syrup, lozenge, inhaler, e-cigarette, chewable gum, nasal spray, transdermal patch, liquid, transmucosal vehicle, hydrogel, nanosome, liposome, noisome, nanoparticle, nanosphere, microsphere, microparticle, microemulsion, nanosuspension, or micelle.

11. A method of treating addiction to alcohol, tobacco, opioid, prescription drugs, cocaine, benzodiazepines, amphetamines, hallucinogens, inhalants, phencyclidine, or other illicit drug comprising administering to an individual in need thereof a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound having the structure:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, and a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle therefor.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition contains a racemic mixture of enantiomers having the structures:

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition contains at least about 99% enantiomeric purity having the structure:

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle is a capsule, tablet, syrup, lozenge, inhaler, e-cigarette, chewable gum, nasal spray, transdermal patch, liquid, transmucosal vehicle, hydrogel, nanosome, liposome, noisome, nanoparticle, nanosphere, microsphere, microparticle, microemulsion, nanosuspension, or micelle.
