Abstract

A display for emitting display light comprising: (a) a light source for emitting a source light; and (b) a filter positioned in the path of said source light, said filter comprising at least short, medium and long filters, wherein said short filter is configured to transmit short-primary light from said source light, said short-primary light comprising a violet portion having wavelengths from 400 to 440 nm and at least a second portion having wavelengths above 440 nm such that said short-primary light is perceptually blue, said short-primary light having a short-primary SPD having a short-primary power between 380-780 nm and a blue power between 440-500 nm, wherein said blue power is less than 5% of said short-primary power.

Claims (25)

1. A display having a low-blue display emission, said display comprising:

a plurality of pixels, each of said plurality of pixels comprising a plurality of subpixels, each of said plurality of subpixels comprising at least

a blue subpixel for emitting perceptively blue light having a first peak in in a range of 400 and 440 nm and a second peak in a range of 500 and 520 nm;

a green subpixel for emitting green light; and

a red subpixel for emitting red light.

2. The display of claim 1 , wherein said first peak is a range of 415 and 430 nm.

3. The display of claim 2 , further comprising:

a backlight; and

a plurality of filters overlaying said backlight, said plurality of filter corresponding to said plurality of subpixels, said plurality of filters comprises at least

a blue primary filter for emitting said perceptively blue light;

a green primary filter for emitting said green light; and

a red primary filter for emitting said red light.

4. The display of claim 3 , wherein said a blue primary filter comprises a violet filter and a cyan filter.

5. The display of claim 3 , wherein said green primary filter has a peak at 527 nm.

6. The display of claim 3 , wherein said red primary filter has a single peak at 638 nm.

7. The display of claim 2 , wherein each of said plurality of subpixels comprises at least

a blue primary emitter for emitting said perceptively blue light;

a green primary emitter for emitting said green light; and

a red primary emitter for emitting said red light.

8. The display of claim 7 , wherein said a blue primary emitter comprises a violet emitter and a cyan emitter.

9. The display of claim 7 , wherein said green primary emitter has a peak at 527 nm.

10. The display of claim 7 , wherein said red primary emitter has a single peak at 638 nm.

11. The display of claim 1 , wherein said red primary emitter has a single peak at 638 nm.

12. The display of claim 1 , further comprising a short wave filter with at least 50% transmittance between 400 and 520 nm.

13. The display of claim 1 , further comprising a short wave filter with at least 80% transmittance between 400 and 500 nm.
