Abstract

Techniques described herein relate to a method for performing data services. The method may include receiving, from a monitor agent, a global name and metadata corresponding to data written to a data structure of storage of a data host; performing a services assessment using the global name, the metadata, and a data service policy rule to obtain at least one data service to perform on the data; and performing the at least one data service based on the services assessment.

Claims (36)

1. A method for performing data services, the method comprising:

receiving, from a monitor agent, a global name and metadata corresponding to data written to a data structure of storage of a data host;

performing a services assessment using the global name, the metadata, and a data service policy rule to obtain at least one data service to perform on the data,

wherein the data service policy rule comprises an indication, based on the global name and the metadata, that the data should not be uploaded over a first communication medium and the data should be held until a second communication medium becomes available,

wherein the data service policy rule specifies that the data should not be compressed when the data is intended to train a classifier model,

wherein the data service policy rule specifies that the data should be captured, moved, and analyzed based on a priority associated with the data; and

performing the at least one data service based on the services assessment.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metadata comprises an intent associated with the data, and the at least one data service is obtained based at least in part on the intent.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one data service comprises at least one selected from a group consisting of data compression, data encryption, and data copy protection.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one data service comprises performing a data transformation on the data as the data is transmitted from the data host to a target computing device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the metadata comprises the priority associated with the data, and the at least one data service is obtained based at least in part on the priority.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data service policy rule is provided by a global policy manager.

7. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising computer readable program code, which when executed by a computer processor enables the computer processor to perform a method for performing data services, the method comprising:

receiving, from a monitor agent, a global name and metadata corresponding to data written to a data structure of storage of a data host;

performing a services assessment using the global name, the metadata, and a data service policy rule to obtain at least one data service to perform on the data,

wherein the data service policy rule comprises an indication, based on the global name and the metadata, that the data should not be uploaded over a first communication medium and the data should be held until a second communication medium becomes available,

wherein the data service policy rule specifies that the data should not be compressed when the data is intended to train a classifier model,

wherein the data service policy rule specifies that the data should be captured, moved, and analyzed based on a priority associated with the data; and

performing the at least one data service based on the services assessment.

8. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the metadata comprises an intent associated with the data, and the at least one data service is obtained based at least in part on the intent.

9. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the at least one data service comprises at least one selected from a group consisting of data compression, data encryption, and data copy protection.

10. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the at least one data service comprises performing a data transformation on the data as the data is transmitted from the data host to a target computing device.

11. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the metadata comprises the priority associated with the data, and the at least one data service is obtained based at least in part on the priority.

12. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the data service policy rule is provided by a global policy manager.

13. A system for performing data services, the system comprising:

a services management application, executing on a processor comprising circuitry, operatively connected to a monitor agent and to storage of a data host, and configured to:

receive, from the monitor agent, a global name and metadata corresponding to data written to a data structure of storage of a data host;

perform a services assessment using the global name, the metadata, and a data service policy rule to obtain at least one data service to perform on the data,

wherein the data service policy rule comprises an indication, based on the global name and the metadata, that the data should not be uploaded over a first communication medium and the data should be held until a second communication medium becomes available,

wherein the data service policy rule specifies that the data should not be compressed when the data is intended to train a classifier model,

wherein the data service policy rule specifies that the data should be captured, moved, and analyzed based on a priority associated with the data; and

perform the at least one data service based on the services assessment.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the metadata comprises an intent associated with the data, and the at least one data service is obtained based at least in part on the intent.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the at least one data service comprises at least one selected from a group consisting of data compression, data encryption, and data copy protection.

16. The system of claim 13 , wherein the at least one data service comprises performing a data transformation on the data as the data is transmitted from the data host to a target computing device.

17. The system of claim 13 , wherein the metadata comprises the priority associated with the data, and the at least one data service is obtained based at least in part on the priority.
