Abstract

Interference-based augmented reality hosting platforms are presented. Hosting platforms can include networking nodes capable of analyzing a digital representation of scene to derive interference among elements of the scene. The hosting platform utilizes the interference to adjust the presence of augmented reality objects within an augmented reality experience. Elements of a scene can constructively interfere, enhancing presence of augmented reality objects; or destructively interfere, suppressing presence of augmented reality objects.

Claims (39)

1. An augmented reality (AR) game system comprising:

a non-transitory computer readable memory storing available AR objects; and

a processor coupled with the non-transitory computer readable memory that, upon execution of software instructions stored in the non-transitory computer readable memory, executes operations to:

obtain environment data associated with an environment of a first AR capable device, wherein the environment data comprises a location;

obtain first player data from the AR capable device, the first player data comprising player attributes and a player context;

obtain presence information of at least one AR object from the available AR objects, wherein the presence information is related to the environment data, including the location, and the available AR objects relevant to the player context;

determine a degree of presence of the at least one AR object based the first player data, the environment data, and the presence information; and

cause the AR capable device to render the at least one AR object according to the degree of presence.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the degree of presence is determined by an interference function, wherein the interference function is a representation of an interference of attributes.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the interference function determines the degree of presence of the at least one AR object based on a gradient determined from GPS coordinates of the location.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the interference function determines the degree of presence of the at least one AR object based on at least one attribute value exceeding or falling below a threshold criterion.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the threshold criterion is based on at least one of the player attributes.

6. The system of claim 4 , wherein the threshold criterion is based on the location.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first player data comprises a player game goal.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the degree of presence of the at least one AR object is based on the at least one AR object comprising the player game goal.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the degree of presence is determined by the at least one AR object being a reward item associated with the player game goal.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein the presence information comprises a minimum required number of players in the vicinity of the location.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of available AR objects is associated with a time and a weather at the location.

12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the player attributes comprise one or more of the following: a species, a class, a level, and an item.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the AR capable device comprises one of the following: a mobile device, a mobile phone, and a gaming console.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the environment data comprises one or more types of the following objects: a real-world object, an AR object, and a virtual object.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the degree of presence is determined by the at least one AR object being available for purchase.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the at least one AR object is purchasable by one of the following currencies: a virtual currency and a real currency.

17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the degree of presence is determined by a second player attribute from a second AR capable device at a same location as the first AR capable device, wherein the second player and the first player are in a shared game and have a matching player context with other players of the shared game.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the environment data comprises remote data obtained from a server device remote to the first AR capable device, the remote data comprising a real-world element or an AR object considered to be local to the first AR capable device.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the environment data comprises a position metadata or an orientation metadata of real-world objects, wherein the degree of presence depends on the position metadata or the orientation metadata.

20. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first AR capable device binds the at least one AR object to the real world when rendering the at least one AR object.

21. An augmented reality (AR) game method comprising:

obtaining environment data associated with an environment of a first AR capable device, wherein the environment data comprises a location;

obtaining first player data from the AR capable device, the first player data comprising player attributes and a player context;

obtaining presence information of at least one AR object from available AR objects, wherein the presence information is related to the environment data, including the location, and the available AR objects relevant to the player context;

determining a degree of presence of the at least one AR object based the first player data, the environment data, and the presence information; and

causing the AR capable device to render the at least one AR object according to the degree of presence.

22. A computer program product embedded in a non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon for implementing an augmented reality (AR) game, which, when executed, configure one or more processors to perform a method comprising:

obtaining environment data associated with an environment of a first AR capable device, wherein the environment data comprises a location;

obtaining first player data from the AR capable device, the first player data comprising player attributes and a player context;

obtaining presence information of at least one AR object from available AR objects, wherein the presence information is related to the environment data, including the location, and the available AR objects relevant to the player context;

determining a degree of presence of the at least one AR object based the first player data, the environment data, and the presence information; and

causing the AR capable device to render the at least one AR object according to the degree of presence.
