Abstract

Systems, methods and instrumentalities are disclosed for WTRU-initiated beam recovery including beam switching and/or beam sweeping. A WTRU may be configured to detect a beam failure condition, identify a candidate beam for resolving the beam failure condition, and send a beam failure recovery request to a network entity. The WTRU may include the candidate beam in the beam failure recovery request and may receive a response from the network entity regarding the request and/or a solution for the beam failure condition. WTRU-initiated beam recovery may be used to resolve radio link failures and improve system performance by avoiding the necessity to perform an acquisition procedure. Additionally, beam sweeping may be performed at a sub-time unit level to provide a fast sweeping mechanism.

Claims (60)

1. A method implemented in a wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

determining that a beam failure condition has occurred,

wherein the determining that the beam failure condition has occurred comprises monitoring at least one of a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) or a synchronization signal block (SSB) to assess whether the beam failure condition has occurred;

identifying a candidate beam for resolving the beam failure condition;

transmitting a beam failure recovery request to a network entity using a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) resource or a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) resource,

wherein the beam failure recovery request indicates the candidate beam identified by the WTRU; and

receiving a response associated with the beam failure recovery request from the network entity.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the PRACH resource or the PUCCH resource used to transmit the beam failure recovery request is associated with at least one of a reference signal or a synchronization signal block.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the CSI-RS or the SSB is associated with a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) through quasi-collocation (QCL).

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the beam failure recovery request is transmitted based on a triggering condition, the triggering condition being predefined or configured by the network entity.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the triggering condition is one of:

a first triggering condition where one or more serving beams or beam-pair links associated with a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitored by the WTRU have failed,

a second triggering condition where the WTRU has identified a new beam candidate or a new beam-pair link candidate that has a beam quality above a predefined or configured threshold,

a third triggering condition where the WTRU has failed to determine a suitable beam candidate or beam-pair link candidate,

a fourth triggering condition where a beam common PDCCH has been configured as a fall-back PDCCH, a PDCCH associated with all beams, or a PDCCH with Omni-direction beams,

a fifth triggering condition where the WTRU has beam correspondence capabilities, or

a sixth triggering condition where the WTRU lacks beam correspondence capabilities.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining the candidate beam by measuring a beam quality on at least one of a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) or a synchronization signal block (SSB).

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

monitoring the PDCCH for the response from the network entity.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a type of beam recovery to be at least one of beam switching or beam sweeping.

9. A wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) comprising:

circuitry configured to:

determine that a beam failure condition has occurred,

wherein the beam failure condition is determined by monitoring at least one of a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) or a synchronization signal block (SSB) to assess whether the beam failure condition has occurred;

identify a candidate beam for resolving the beam failure condition;

transmit a beam failure recovery request to a network entity using a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) resource or a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) resource,

wherein the beam failure recovery request indicates the candidate beam identified by the WTRU; and

receive a response associated with the beam failure recovery request from the network entity.

10. The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the PRACH resource or the PUCCH resource used to transmit the beam failure recovery request is associated with at least one of a reference signal or a synchronization signal block.

11. The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the CSI-RS or the SSB is associated with a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) through quasi-collocation (QCL).

12. The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the beam failure recovery request is transmitted based on a triggering condition, the triggering condition being predefined or configured by the network entity.

13. The WTRU of claim 12 , wherein the triggering condition is one of:

a first triggering condition where one or more serving beams or beam-pair links associated with a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) monitored by the WTRU have failed,

a second triggering condition where the WTRU has identified a new beam candidate or a new beam-pair link candidate that has a beam quality above a predefined or configured threshold,

a third triggering condition where the WTRU has failed to determine a suitable beam candidate or beam-pair link candidate,

a fourth triggering condition where a beam common PDCCH has been configured as a fall-back PDCCH, a PDCCH associated with all beams, or a PDCCH with Omni-direction beams,

a fifth triggering condition where the WTRU has beam correspondence capabilities, or

a sixth triggering condition where the WTRU lacks beam correspondence capabilities.

14. The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the circuitry is further configured to determine the candidate beam by measuring a beam quality on at least one of a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) or a synchronization signal block (SSB).

15. The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the circuitry is further configured to monitor the PDCCH for the response from the network entity.

16. The WTRU of claim 9 , wherein the circuitry is further configured to determine a type of beam recovery to be at least one of beam switching or beam sweeping.

17. A based station comprising:

circuitry configured to:

receive a beam failure recovery request from wireless transmit receive unit (WTRU) via a Physical Random Access Channel (PRACH) resource or a Physical Uplink Control Channel (PUCCH) resource, wherein the beam failure recovery request indicates the candidate beam identified by the WTRU; and
