Abstract

An optical pattern is decoded in a scene. An automatic exposure feature of a camera is disabled. A first image is acquired and the optical pattern is detected in the first image. An exposure of the optical pattern in the first image is ascertained. At least one parameter of the camera is modified based on the exposure of the optical pattern. A second image is acquired using the modified parameter. The optical pattern in decoded in the second image.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein modifying at least one parameter of the camera comprises:

determining an exposure level of the optical pattern using the first image; and

modifying at least one parameter of the camera to change an exposure of the optical pattern, wherein the at least one parameter changes brightness of the optical pattern in the second image.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one parameter of the camera is a gain, a frame rate, a shutter speed, and/or an aperture value.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions, when executed, further cause the one or more processors to:

detect a plurality of optical patterns in the first image;

determine a plurality of exposure values based on the plurality of optical patterns in the first image;

acquire a plurality of images, each image of the plurality of images acquired according to one or more parameters of the camera determined using an exposure value of the plurality of the exposure values; and

decode the plurality of optical patterns in the plurality of images.

7. A method for decoding optical patterns in an environment, the method comprising:

disabling an automatic exposure feature controlling one or more parameters of a camera;

acquiring a first image of a scene using the camera;

detecting an optical pattern in the first image, the optical pattern encoding an object identifier;

ascertaining an exposure of the optical pattern in the first image;

modifying at least one parameter of the camera based on the exposure of the optical pattern;

acquiring a second image using the at least one parameter modified based on the exposure of the optical pattern; and

decoding the optical pattern in the second image, obtaining the object identifier.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein ascertaining the exposure of the optical pattern comprises:

ascertaining that the optical pattern is overexposed or underexposed; and

ascertaining that the one or more processors cannot decode the optical pattern in the first image based on the optical pattern being overexposed or underexposed.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein ascertaining the exposure of the optical pattern comprises:

ascertaining that the optical pattern is unresolved or blurred; and

ascertaining that the one or more processors cannot decode the optical pattern in the first image based on the optical pattern being unresolved or blurred.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein modifying at least one parameter of the camera comprises:

determining an exposure level of the optical pattern using the first image; and

modifying at least one parameter of the camera to change an exposure of the optical pattern, wherein the at least one parameter changes brightness of the optical pattern in the second image.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the at least one parameter of the camera is a gain, a frame rate, a shutter speed, and/or an aperture value.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein modifying the at least one parameter of the camera comprises decreasing the shutter speed of the camera.

13. The method of claim 7 , wherein the optical pattern is a first optical pattern, the exposure is a first exposure, the at least one parameter modified based on the exposure of the optical pattern is a first modified parameter, and the method further comprises:

detecting a second optical pattern in the first image;

ascertaining a second exposure of the second optical pattern in the first image;

modifying at least one of the one or more parameters of the camera using the second exposure of the second optical pattern;

acquiring a third image using the at least one of the one or more parameter using the second exposure of the second optical pattern; and

decoding the second optical pattern in the third image.

14. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

detecting a plurality of optical patterns in the first image;

determining a plurality of exposure values based on the plurality of optical patterns in the first image;

acquiring a plurality of images, each image of the plurality of images acquired according to one or more parameters of the camera determined using an exposure value of the plurality of the exposure values; and
