Abstract

Inventive concepts relating to open access points are described wherein a first wireless service is provided to one or more devices associated with a first residence using a first band of frequencies and a second wireless service is provided to one or more other devices not associated with the first residence using a second band of frequencies. According to some embodiments, an access point is configured to provide the first wireless service to the one or more devices associated with the first residence responsive to an access code that has been provided to the one or more devices and is further configured to provide the second wireless service to the one or more other devices not associated with the first residence. The first wireless service differs from the second wireless service, and the second band of frequencies differs from the first band of frequencies and comprises 900 MHz.

Claims (41)

1. A system comprising an access point that is configured to provide a first wireless service to one or more devices that are associated with a first residence using a first band of frequencies; and is further configured to provide a second wireless service to one or more other devices that are not associated with the first residence using a second band of frequencies;

wherein the access point is configured to provide the first wireless service to the one or more devices that are associated with the first residence responsive to a unique access code that has been provided to the one or more devices;

wherein the access point is further configured to provide the second wireless service to the one or more other devices that are not associated with the first residence absent the unique access code having been provided to the one or more other devices;

wherein the first wireless service differs from the second wireless service; and

wherein the second band of frequencies differs from the first band of frequencies and comprises frequencies of a 900 MHz band of frequencies.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first band of frequencies comprises frequencies that are greater than 1000 MHz.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the access point is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in the first residence; the system further comprising:

at least one device of said one or more devices that are associated with the first residence that is/are configured to communicate with the access point that belongs to the first residence by having provided the unique access code to said at least one device;

wherein said at least one device is/are further configured to communicate with a second access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in a second residence absent a provision of an access code, other than said unique access code, having been provided to said at least one device.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein said at least one device is/are further configured to communicate with a third access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in a third residence absent a provision of an access code, other than said unique access code, having been provided to said at least one device.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein said at least one device is/are further configured to communicate with said second and/or third access point(s) using frequencies of a 900 MHz band of frequencies.

6. A method comprising:

using an access point and a first band of frequencies to provide a first wireless service to one or more devices that are associated with a first residence;

using the access point and a second band of frequencies to provide a second wireless service to one or more other devices that are not associated with the first residence;

providing the first wireless service by the access point to the one or more devices that are associated with the first residence responsive to a unique access code that has been provided to the one or more devices; and

providing the second wireless service by the access point to the one or more other devices that are not associated with the first residence absent the unique access code having been provided to the one or more other devices;

wherein the first wireless service differs from the second wireless service; and

wherein the second band of frequencies differs from the first band of frequencies and comprises frequencies of a 900 MHz band of frequencies.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the first band of frequencies comprises frequencies that are greater than 1000 MHz.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the access point is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in the first residence; the method further comprising:

communicating, using at least one device of said one or more devices that are associated with the first residence, with the access point responsive to having provided the unique access code to said at least one device; and

communicating, using said at least one device, with a second access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in a second residence, absent having provided an access code to said at least one device, other than said unique access code.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

communicating, using said at least one device, with a third access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in a third residence, absent having provided an access code to said at least one device, other than said unique access code.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

communicating using said at least one device with said second and/or third access point(s) using frequencies of a 900 MHz band of frequencies.

11. A method comprising:

using at least one device of one or more devices that are associated with a first residence to access a first wireless service, using a first band of frequencies, that is provided by a first access point that belongs to the first residence, responsive to a first unique access code having been provided to said at least one device; and

using the at least one device to further access a second wireless service, using a second band of frequencies, that is provided by a second access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in a second residence, absent an access code, other than said first unique access code, having been provided to said at least one device;

wherein the second access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in the second residence is configured to communicate with one or more other devices that are associated with the second residence responsive to a second unique access code having been provided to said one or more other devices;

wherein the second band of frequencies differs from the first band of frequencies and comprises frequencies of a 900 MHz band of frequencies.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

using the at least one device to further communicate with a third access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in a third residence absent an access code, other than said first unique access code, having been provided to said at least one device;

wherein the third access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in the third residence is configured to communicate with one or more devices that are associated with the third residence responsive to a third unique access code having been provided to said one or more devices that are associated with the third residence.

13. A system comprising:

at least one device that is associated with a first residence and is configured to access a first wireless service, using a first band of frequencies, that is provided by a first access point that belongs to the first residence, responsive to a first unique access code having been provided to said at least one device;

wherein the at least one device is further configured to access a second wireless service, using a second band of frequencies, provided by a second access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in a second residence, absent an access code, other than said first unique access code, having been provided to said at least one device;

wherein the second access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in the second residence is configured to communicate with one or more other devices that are associated with the second residence responsive to a second unique access code having been provided to said one or more other devices; and

wherein the second band of frequencies differs from the first band of frequencies and comprises frequencies of a 900 MHz band of frequencies.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the at least one device is further configured to communicate with a third access point that is associated with, belongs to and/or is installed in a third residence, absent an access code, other than said unique access code, having been provided to said at least one device.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the first band of frequencies comprises frequencies that are greater than 1000 MHz.
