Abstract

A system for an autonomous vehicle that receives driving environment information corresponding to a driving environment provided by another autonomous vehicle, and determines a navigation route based on a degree of reliability of the driving environment information provided by the another autonomous vehicle.

Claims (63)

1. A control device configured to support operations of an autonomous vehicle, the control device comprising:

a transceiver: and

control circuitry configured to:

wirelessly receive from one or more other autonomous vehicles driving environment information corresponding to a driving environment detected by one or more other autonomous vehicles:

determine a degree of reliability of the driving environment information received from the one or more other autonomous vehicles,

wherein the degree of reliability is determined based on time information indicating a time at which the driving environment information was acquired by the one or more other autonomous vehicles,

determine a navigation route based on the degree of reliability of the driving environment information,

control a driving system of the autonomous vehicle based on the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route,

control the driving system in a predetermined autonomous driving mode under a condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is higher than a first threshold value;

control the driving system in a predetermined safe driving mode under a condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is lower than the first threshold value; and

control the driving system in a manual driving mode under a condition that the deuee of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is lower than a second threshold value which is lower than the first threshold value, wherein

in the manual driving mode, the driving system allows a driver to intervene in the operations of the autonomous vehicle,

a maximum speed of the autonomous vehicle in the predetermined sate drivin 2 mode is lower than a maximum speed of the autonomous vehicle in the predetermined autonomous driving mode, and

the first threshold and second threshold values are determined based on the driving environment information.

2. The control device of claim 1 , wherein the first threshold value is set as a high value under a condition that the driving environment information includes an indication of deposited snow.

3. The control device of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to wirelessly receive driving environment information corresponding to the driving environment as detected by the autonomous vehicle.

4. The control device of claim 1 , wherein the degree of reliability is based on one or more road hazard specific reliability degree factors, each of the one or more road hazard specific reliability degree factors having:

a detection information reliability coefficient,

an erroneous recognition risk coefficient, and

at least one of a straight road coefficient and a curved road coefficient.

5. The control device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a memory configured to store the received driving environment information association with the time information indicating a timing at which the driving environment information was acquired by the one or more other autonomous vehicles.

The control device of claim I, wherein, as part f the degree of reliability, the control circuitry is configured to assign a first degree of reliability to a first piece of driving environment information acquired from one of the one or more other autonomous vehicles at a first time and assign a second degree of reliability to a second piece of driving environment information acquired from another of the one or more other autonomous vehicles at a second time prior to the first time, the first degree of reliability being greater than the second degree of reliability.

The control device of claim 1 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to control the driving system in the predetermined autonomous driving mode under the condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is higher than the first threshold value, even though the navigation route is not an autonomous traveling dedicated lane.

8. A system for implementation in an autonomous vehicle, the control device comprising:

a transceiver; and

control circuitry configured to:

wirelessly receive from a server driving environment information corresponding to a driving environment detected by one or more other autonomous vehicles;

determine a degree of reliability of the driving environment information received from the server,

wherein the degree of reliability is determined based on time information indicating a time at which the driving environment information was acquired by the one or more other autonomous vehicles,

determine a navigation route based on the degree of reliability of the driving environment information,

control a driving system of the autonomous vehicle based on the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route,

control the driving system in a predetermined autonomous driving mode under a condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is higher than a first threshold value,

control the driving system in a predetermined safe driving mode under a condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is lower than the first threshold value, and

control the driving system in a manual driving mode under a condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is lower than a second threshold value which is lower than the first threshold value,

wherein:

in the manual driving mode, the driving system allows a driver to intervene in the operations of the autonomous vehicle,

a maximum speed of the autonomous vehicle in the predetermined safe driving mode is lower than a maximum speed of the autonomous vehicle in the predetermined autonomous driving, mode and

the first threshold and second threshold values are determined based on the driving environment information.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the first threshold value is set as a high value under a condition that the driving environment information includes an indication of deposited snow.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to acquire current driving environment information of the autonomous vehicle.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first threshold value is determined based on the driving environment information and the current driving environment information.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to control the transceiver to wirelessly transmit the current driving environment information to the server.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the degree of reliability is based on one or more road hazard specific reliability degree factors, each of the one or more road hazard specific reliability degree factors having:

a detection information reliability coefficient,

an erroneous recognition risk coefficient, and

at least one of a straight road coefficient and a curved road coefficient.

14. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

a memory configured to store the received driving environment information in association with the time information indicating a timing at which the driving environment information was acquired by the one or more other autonomous vehicles.

The system of claim 8 , wherein, as part of the degree of reliability, the control circuitry is configured to assign a first degree of reliability to a first piece of driving environment information acquired from one of the one or more other autonomous vehicles at a first time and a assign second degree of reliability to a second piece of driving environment information acquired from another of the one or more other autonomous vehicles at a second time prior to the first tune, the first degree of reliability being greater than the second degree of reliability.

The system of claim 8 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to control the driving system in the predetermined autonomous driving mode under the condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is higher than the first threshold value, even though the navigation route is not an autonomous traveling dedicated lane.

17. A method for a control device configured to support operations of an autonomous vehicle, the method comprising:

wirelessly receiving from one or more other autonomous vehicles driving environment information corresponding to a driving environment detected by one or more other autonomous vehicles:

determining a degree of reliability of the driving environment information received from the one or more other autonomous vehicles,

wherein the degree of reliability is determined based on time information indicating a. time at which the driving environment information was acquired by the one or more other autonomous vehicles,

determining a navigation route based on the degree of reliability of the driving environment information,

controlling a driving system of the autonomous vehicle based on the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route,

controlling the driving system in a predetermined autonomous driving mode under a condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is higher than a first threshold value;

controlling the driving system in a predetermined safe driving mode under a condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is lower than the first threshold value, and

controlling the driving system in a manual driving mode under a condition that the degree of reliability of the driving environment information on the determined navigation route is lower than a second threshold value which is lower than the first threshold value, wherein

in the manual driving mode, the driving system allows a driver to intervene in the operations of the autonomous vehicle,

a maximum speed of the autonomous vehicle in the predetermined safe driving mode is lower than a maximum speed of the autonomous vehicle in the predetermined autonomous driving mode and

the first threshold and second threshold values are determined based on the driving environment information.
