Abstract

A security system is provided to integrate a local existing security system with other security and automation devices which may not be compatible with the existing security system. The security system can connect and integrate an existing security system, and provide a centralized point of controlling all existing and new security and automation devices in a premise, thereby allowing flexibility in modifying and expanding a security system in the premise without need of replacing the security system that has been already installed throughout the premise. The security system can at least partially self-program to communicate with an existing security system when the security system is connected to the existing security system.

Claims (46)

1. A system for providing integrated security control, the system comprising:

an existing security panel;

a security cloud server;

a local network access device;

an output device; and

a security communicator device configured to be connected to the existing security panel, the security communicator device including a plurality of communication interfaces, including a broadband communication interface and a cellular communication interface, configured to be selectively used to connect to the security cloud server, the security communicator device configured to perform operations comprising:

connecting to the existing security panel;

receiving a security data stream from at least one security device associated with the security communicator device;

splitting the security data stream into a first device signal and a second device signal;

in response to determining that the first device signal comprises video data and that the broadband communication interface is available, automatically selecting, from among the plurality of communication channel interfaces, the broadband communication interface to communicate the first device signal with the security cloud server;

in response to determining that the second device signal does not comprise video data, automatically selecting, from among the plurality of communication channel interfaces, the cellular communication interface to communicate the second device signal with the security cloud server;

contemporaneously transmitting the first device signal to the security cloud server using the broadband communication interface and the second device signal to the security cloud server using the cellular communication interface, the security cloud server being configured to process the first device signal and the second device signal, and to generate a processed signal;

receiving the processed signal from the security cloud server using the one of the plurality of communication interfaces; and

selecting, from among a plurality of communication pathways between the security communicator device and the output device, a communication pathway for transmitting the processed signal to the output device; and

transmitting the processed signal to the output device using the selected communication pathway, the output device configured to output content contained in the processed signal.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the selected communication pathway comprises the output device being connected to the security communicator device through the local network access device.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein transmitting the processed signal to the output device using the selected communication pathway comprises routing the processed signal to the output device through the local network access device, wherein the local network access device includes a broadband router.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the selected communication pathway comprises the output device being connected directly to the security communicator device.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein transmitting the processed signal to the output device using the selected communication pathway comprises routing the processed signal to the output device through the security communicator device.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of communication interfaces includes:

an Ethernet communication interface; and

a wireless communication interface.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprises:

automatically switching between the plurality of communication interfaces.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprises:

selecting communication path priorities among the plurality of communication interfaces through preferences established in a network services platform.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the selecting operation further comprises:

selecting, from among a plurality of communication paths, an optimal communication path to be used by the security communicator device based on one or more of a plurality of factors.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of factors include costs associated with using the plurality of communication paths.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of factors include current availability of the plurality of communication paths.

12. The system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of factors include latency needs related to sensor data to be transmitted by the security communicator device.

13. The system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of factors include sensor triggered criteria.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprises:

receiving an existing device signal from an existing security device through the existing security panel, the existing security device being connected to the existing security panel;

transmitting the existing device signal to the security cloud server using the one of the plurality of communication interfaces, the security cloud server configured to process the existing device signal and generating a second processed signal;

receiving the second processed signal from the security cloud server using the one of the plurality of communication interfaces; and

permitting the second processed signal to be transmitted to the output device, the output device configured to output content contained in the second processed signal.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the operations further comprises:

translating the existing device signal to be compatible with a protocol of the security communicator device.

16. The system of claim 14 , wherein the security communicator device is connected to one of data bus and/or telephone line of the existing security panel.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the existing security panel is disconnected from an existing communication network when connected to the security communicator device.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first device signal is transmitted from the security cloud server to a media analysis server for analysis.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the output device includes a display screen for displaying the content.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the output device is configured to present at the display screen (i) the video data of the first device signal, and (ii) information corresponding to the second device signal.

21. The system of claim 20 , wherein the information corresponding to the second device signal is sensor status information from the at least one security device.

22. The system of claim 19 , wherein the output device is a mobile computing device that is configured to run a software application that communicates with the security communicator device over the selected communication pathway and that is remote from the at least one security device.
