Abstract

A method of flushing a toilet that includes opening a first valve to introduce a first supply of grey water into a passage to prime a siphon; opening a second valve to introduce a second supply of water into a bowl from a tank, the bowl having an outlet that is in fluid communication with an inlet of the passage; closing the first valve to shut off the first supply of water; evacuating the contents of the bowl through an outlet of the passage by way of the siphon generated by the introduction of the first supply of water and the introduction of the second supply of water; and closing the second valve to shut off the second supply of water.

Claims (44)

1. A grey water system configured to be in fluid communication with a trapway of a toilet, the grey water system comprising:

a collection device configured to capture water from at least one appliance;

a pump configured to move the captured water from the at least one appliance to a storage tank;

a pipe comprising two ends respectively configured to connect an outlet of the storage tank and connect the trapway of the toilet;

a first valve in-line with the pipe, the first valve directly connected between the outlet of the storage tank and the trapway of the toilet; and

a second valve configured to allow fresh water into the toilet,

wherein, during a flush cycle, the first valve is opened before the second valve is opened.

2. The grey water system of claim 1 , further comprising:

an actuator configured to control the first valve to open and close the pipe between the outlet of the storage tank to the trapway of the toilet.

3. The grey water system of claim 2 , wherein the actuator includes a lever arm.

4. The grey water system of claim 2 , wherein the actuator includes a button that is configured to send an electronic signal to a solenoid for opening or closing of the first valve.

5. The grey water system of claim 4 , wherein a timing for the electronic signal is selected based on the toilet.

6. The grey water system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a dispensing subsystem configured to dispense excess grey water from the storage tank away from the toilet.

7. The grey water system of claim 6 , wherein the dispensing subsystem is in fluid communication with a drain pipe connected to the toilet.

8. The grey water system of claim 1 , wherein an inlet opening for the trapway of the toilet is angled so that the grey water is introduced to the trapway under assistance of gravity.

9. The grey water system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one appliance includes a bath or a shower.

10. A grey water system configured to be in fluid communication with a trapway of a toilet, the grey water system comprising:

a collection device configured to capture water from at least one appliance in proximity to the toilet;

a pump configured to move the captured water from the at least one appliance to a storage tank, wherein the storage tank is connected to the trapway of the toilet through a first path and connected to a drain pipe of the toilet through a second path;

a pipe comprising two ends respectively configured to connect an outlet of the storage tank and connect the trapway of the toilet; and

a valve in-line with the pipe, the valve directly connected between the outlet of the storage tank and the trapway of the toilet.

11. The grey water system of claim 10 , further comprising:

an actuator to control the valve to open and close the pipe between the outlet of the storage tank to the trapway of the toilet.

12. The grey water system of claim 11 , wherein the actuator includes a lever arm.

13. The grey water system of claim 11 , wherein the actuator includes a button that is configured to send an electronic signal to a solenoid for opening or closing of the valve.

14. The grey water system of claim 13 , wherein a timing for the electronic signal is selected relation to a siphon for the toilet.

15. The grey water system of claim 10 , further comprising:

a dispensing subsystem configured to dispense excess grey water from the storage tank away from the toilet.

16. The grey water system of claim 10 , wherein an inlet opening for the trapway of the toilet is angled so that the grey water is introduced to the trapway under assistance of gravity.

17. A grey water system comprising:

a trapway coupled to a toilet;

a collection device configured to capture water from at least one appliance separate from the toilet;

a pump configured to move the captured water from the at least one appliance to a storage tank;

a pipe comprising two ends respectively configured to connect an outlet of the storage tank and connect the trapway of the toilet;

a first valve in-line with the pipe connected between the outlet of the storage tank and the trapway of the toilet; and

a second valve configured to allow fresh water into the toilet,

wherein, during a flush cycle, the first valve is opened before the second valve is opened.

18. The grey water system of claim 17 , further comprising:

an actuator to control the first valve to open and close the pipe between the outlet of the storage tank to the trapway of the toilet.

19. The grey water system of claim 1 , wherein the first valve is configured to open, allowing the captured water to flow into the trapway of the toilet, priming a siphon in the toilet, and

wherein the first valve is configured to close prior to a siphoning action in the toilet.

20. The grey water system of claim 10 , wherein the first valve is configured to open, allowing the captured water to flow into the trapway of the toilet, priming a siphon in the toilet, and

wherein the first valve is configured to close prior to a siphoning action in the toilet.
