Abstract

A method and system of correlating annotations of media files. A first media file is received from a first media recording device. A file record for the first media file is created in the file table. A determination is made whether the first media file belongs to an existing matter group. Upon determining that the first media file belongs to an existing matter group: the file record is related with the existing matter group in the file table; annotations of the first media file that are flagged to be shared, are related to all media files of the existing matter group; and annotations of all the media files of the existing matter group to the first media file are related. Upon determining that the first media file does not belong to an existing matter group, a new matter group is created for the first media file in the matter table of the central server.

Claims (38)

1. A media recording device comprising:

one or more processors;

a network interface coupled to the one or more processors configured to enable communications via a communication network;

storage for content and executable instructions, wherein the storage includes:

a file table in which media files are recorded associated with respective fields, and wherein the fields include:

a shared field for storing annotations that are flagged for sharing with other media devices, and

a local field for storing annotations that are not for sharing with other media devices, and

instructions stored in the storage, wherein execution of the instructions by the one or more processors configures the media recording device to perform acts comprising:

creating a media file on the media recording device;

recording the media file in the file table;

sending a data packet that includes annotations for the media file, wherein sent annotations that are flagged for sharing with other media devices are sent with the flagging;

receiving an event identifier related to the media file;

storing the event identifier in the file table in an event identifier field associated in the file table with the media file and with the annotations associated with the media file;

sharing the annotations associated in the file table with the media recording device that are flagged for sharing with other media recording devices, and

sending, to a central server, the media file and annotations associated in the file table with the media recording device that are flagged for sharing with other media recording devices,

wherein the media file provides indicia of belonging to a matter group that correlates multiple media files based on having the indicia in common, and wherein the flagging for sharing of the sent annotations flags the annotations for a matter table that correlates the annotations with all media files in the matter group based on the indicia, and

wherein media files that share a common folder in the storage are linked automatically to the same annotations that are flagged for sharing in the file table.

2. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein:

the data packet comprises a geolocation and a time of creating the media file, and at least one of: (i) identification information of the media recording device, and (ii) identification information of an operator of the media recording device at the time of the creating the media file.

3. The media recording device of claim 2 , wherein the sent annotations include annotations that are already available on the media recording device for the media file.

4. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the event identifier is received at a beginning of the creation of the media file.

5. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the annotations include first annotations that are received from a case management system.

6. The media recording device of claim, wherein the annotations include second annotations that are received from a user interface of the media recording device.

The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein execution of the instructions by the one or more processors configures the media recording device to perform a further act comprising, upon the media file being placed with another media file via a drag-and-drop on a user interface of the media recording device, grouping annotations together that are flagged for sharing between the media file and the another media file.

8. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the event identifier is received upon request.

9. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the event identifier is received at a predetermined interval.

10. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the data packet is sent at the beginning of the creating of the media file.

11. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the data packet is sent at the completion of the creating of the media file.

12. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the data packet is sent during the creating of the media file.

13. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the data packet is sent when a network connection for the sending becomes available.

14. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein execution of the instructions by the one or more processors configures the media recording device to perform one or more further acts comprising:

sending, in response to a ping, an indication that a media file is in a process of creation or recently captured.

15. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein execution of the instructions by the one or more processors configures the media recording device to perform one or more further acts comprising:

receiving edits to at least one of the annotations associated with the media file; and

associating in the file table the edits with the media file.

16. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the media file is streamed live.

17. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the media file is sent immediately upon completion.

18. The media recording device of claim 1 , wherein the media file is sent when a network connection becomes available.
