Abstract

In various embodiments, the motion of a wristband is used to control games.

Claims (53)

1. An apparatus comprising:

at least one processor configured to control:

transmitting, by a transmitter, to an electronic device, a signal that encodes an identifier that is unique to the apparatus, indicates a current location of the apparatus and causes display of a message at the electronic device;

responsive to a confirmation action by the electronic device and when the current location is determined to be within a predetermined area, transmitting control signals to the electronic device to control an application at the electronic device, wherein the electronic device is operable to receive second control signals from a plurality of other apparatuses, and wherein the control signals cause the electronic device to react to given control signals received from the apparatus;

receiving a second signal from a motion sensor, wherein the second signal indicates at least one motion of the apparatus;

transforming the second signal to a command, to control activity of an application associated with the electronic device;

transmitting, by the transmitter, the command to the electronic device;

receiving, from a receiver, instructions received wirelessly by the receiver from the electronic device; and

responsive to the instructions, providing information to an output of the apparatus.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a switch having two stable positions, and

wherein the at least one processor is configured to control:

detecting a position of the switch, and

transmitting, by the transmitter, of a signal only when the switch is in a first of the two stable positions.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus comprises at least one of a wristwatch and a wristband.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus comprises a wristwatch.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the apparatus comprises a wristband.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the electronic device comprises a gaming device to provide a gaming application.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the output comprises at least one of an audio speaker or haptics transducer to provide information to a player.

8. A method comprising:

controlling, by at least one processor of an apparatus:

transmitting, by a transmitter, to an electronic device, a signal that encodes an identifier that is unique to the apparatus, indicates a current location of the apparatus and causes display of a message at the electronic device;

responsive to a confirmation action by the electronic device and when the current location is determined to be within a predetermined area, transmitting control signals to the electronic device to control an application at the electronic device, wherein the electronic device is operable to receive second control signals from a plurality of other apparatuses, and wherein the control signals cause the electronic device to react to given control signals received from the apparatus;

receiving a second signal from a motion sensor, wherein the second signal indicates at least one motion of the apparatus;

transforming the second signal to a command, to control activity of an application associated with the electronic device;

transmitting, by the transmitter, the command to the electronic device;

receiving, from a receiver, instructions received wirelessly by the receiver from the electronic device; and

responsive to the instructions, providing information to an output of the apparatus.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

controlling, by the at least one processor:

detecting a position of a switch; and

transmitting, by the transmitter, of a signal only when the switch is in a first of two stable positions.

10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

controlling, by the at least one processor of the apparatus, operating of the apparatus as at least one of a wristwatch and a wristband.

11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising controlling, by the at least one processor of the apparatus, operating of the apparatus as a wristwatch.

12. The method of claim 8 , further comprising controlling, by the at least one processor of the apparatus, the apparatus to operate as a wristband.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising controlling, by the at least one processor of the apparatus, communicating with the electronic device configured as a gaming device to provide a gaming application.

14. The method of claim 8 , further comprising controlling, by the at least one processor of the apparatus, operating the output as at least one of an audio speaker or a haptics transducer to provide information to a player.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium configured to store instructions which, when executed by at least one processor of an apparatus, control:

transmitting, by a transmitter, to an electronic device, a signal that encodes an identifier that is unique to the apparatus, indicates a current location of the apparatus and causes display of a message at the electronic device;

responsive to a confirmation action by the electronic device and when the current location is determined to be within a predetermined area, transmitting control signals to the electronic device to control an application at the electronic device, wherein the electronic device is operable to receive second control signals from a plurality of other apparatuses, and wherein the control signals cause the electronic device to react to given control signals received from the apparatus;

receiving a second signal from a motion sensor, wherein the second signal indicates at least one motion of the apparatus;

transforming the second signal to a command, to control activity of an application associated with the electronic device;

transmitting, by the transmitter, the command to the electronic device;

receiving, from a receiver, instructions received wirelessly by the receiver from the electronic device; and

responsive to the instructions, providing information to an output of the apparatus.

16. The medium of claim 15 , in which the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, control:

detecting a position of a switch; and

transmitting, by the transmitter, of a signal only when the switch is in a first of two stable positions.

17. The medium of claim 15 , in which the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, control operating of the apparatus as at least one of a wristwatch and a wristband.

18. The medium of claim 15 , in which the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, control operating of the apparatus as a wristwatch.

19. The medium of claim 15 , in which the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, control operating the apparatus as a wristband.

20. The medium of claim 15 , in which the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, control communicating with the electronic device configured as a gaming device to provide a gaming application.
