Abstract

Systems and methods for reducing error from noisy data received from a high frequency sensor by fusing received input with data received from a low frequency sensor by collecting a first set of dynamic inputs from the high frequency sensor, collecting a correction input point from the low frequency sensor, and adjusting a propagation path of a second set of dynamic inputs from the high frequency sensor based on the correction input point either by full translation to the correction input point or dampened approach towards the correction input point.

Claims (34)

1. A visualization system comprising:

a first electromagnetic transmitter operable to transmit a first electromagnetic signal;

an ultrasound transmitter operable to transmit an ultrasound signal;

a first electromagnetic sensor operable to sense the first electromagnetic signal;

an ultrasound microphone operable to sense the ultrasound signal;

a delay measurement device connected between the first electromagnetic sensor and the ultrasound microphone and operable to determine a delay between receiving the first electromagnetic signal and receiving the ultrasound signal;

a calibration system connected to the delay measurement device and operable to calibrate the first electromagnetic signal based on the delay; and

a sensor digital processing unit connected to the first electromagnetic sensor to receive the first electromagnetic signal and operable to analyze the first electromagnetic signal to determine a location of the first electromagnetic transmitter and the first electromagnetic sensor relative to one another.

2. The visualization system of claim 1 , wherein the first electromagnetic signal and the ultrasound signal have respective waves, and wave forms of the waves are the same.

3. The visualization system of claim 2 , wherein the waves are in-phase with one another when transmitted and out-of-phase from one another when received and the delay measurement device determines a shift in phase between the waves.

4. The visualization system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a second electromagnetic transmitter operable to transmit a second electromagnetic signal; and

a second electromagnetic sensor operable to sense the second electromagnetic signal, wherein the sensor digital processing unit is connected to the second electromagnetic sensor to receive the second electromagnetic signal and operable to analyze the second electromagnetic signal to determine a location of the second electromagnetic transmitter and the second electromagnetic sensor relative to one another.

5. The visualization system of claim 4 , wherein the first electromagnetic signal and the second electromagnetic signal have waves that are in-phase with one another.

6. The visualization system of claim 4 , further comprising:

a third electromagnetic transmitter operable to transmit a third electromagnetic signal; and

a third electromagnetic sensor operable to sense the third electromagnetic signal, wherein the sensor digital processing unit is connected to the third electromagnetic sensor to receive the third electromagnetic signal and operable to analyze the third electromagnetic signal to determine a location of the third electromagnetic transmitter and the third electromagnetic sensor relative to one another.

7. The visualization system of claim 6 , wherein the first electromagnetic signal and the third electromagnetic signal have waves that are in-phase with one another.

8. The visualization system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a head-mounted display unit; and

a hand-held totem, wherein the first electromagnetic transmitter is located on the hand-held totem and the first electromagnetic sensor is located on the head-mounted display unit.

9. The visualization system of claim 8 , wherein the second electromagnetic transmitter is located on the hand-held totem and the second electromagnetic sensor is located on the head-mounted display unit.

10. The visualization system of claim 8 , wherein the head-mounted display unit has a see-through display for a user to see the totem.

11. The visualization system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a head-mounted display unit; and

a processing module that creates a display object though a display of the head-mounted display unit based on an output of the sensor digital processing unit.

12. A visualization method comprising:

transmitting a first electromagnetic signal from a first electromagnetic transmitter;

transmitting an ultrasound signal from an ultrasound transmitter;

sensing the first electromagnetic signal with a first electromagnetic sensor;

sensing the ultrasound signal with an ultrasound microphone;

determining a delay between receiving the first electromagnetic signal and receiving the ultrasound signal with a delay measurement device connected between the first electromagnetic sensor and the ultrasound microphone;

calibrating the first electromagnetic signal based on the delay with a calibration system connected to the delay measurement device; and

analyzing the first electromagnetic signal to determine a location of the first electromagnetic transmitter and the first electromagnetic sensor relative to one another with a sensor digital processing unit connected to the first electromagnetic sensor to receive the first electromagnetic signal.
