Abstract

Embodiments of golf club heads, golf clubs, and methods to manufacture golf club heads and golf clubs are generally described herein. In one example, a golf club head may include a body portion having a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a hosel portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, a sole portion with a sole portion edge, a front portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, and an interior cavity having a first recessed portion having a center portion of the interior cavity including a maximum width of the interior cavity, and a second recessed portion at least partially surrounding the first recessed portion and located proximate to a perimeter portion of the body portion. A first filler material is in the first recessed portion, and a second filler material is in the second recessed portion. The first filler material and at least a portion of the second filler material engage an inner surface of the back wall portion. At least one physical property of the first filler material is different from at least one physical property of the second filler material. Other examples and embodiments may be described and claimed.

Claims (49)

1. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion comprising a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a hosel portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, a sole portion with a sole portion edge, a front portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, and an interior cavity comprising:

a first recessed portion having a center portion of the interior cavity including a maximum width of the interior cavity; and

a second recessed portion at least partially surrounding the first recessed portion and located proximate to a perimeter portion of the body portion;

a face portion attached to the front portion to enclose the interior cavity;

a port connected to the second recessed portion;

a first filler material in the first recessed portion, and

a second filler material in the second recessed portion,

wherein the first filler material and at least a portion of the second filler material engage an inner surface of the back wall portion, and

wherein at least one physical property of the first filler material is different from at least one physical property of the second filler material.

2. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein a distance between the port and the toe portion edge is less than a distance between the port and the hosel portion.

A golf club head as defined in claim 1 further comprising a mass portion comprising a material having a greater density than a density of a material of the body portion, wherein a distance between the mass portion and the toe portion edge is less than a distance between the mass portion and the hosel portion.

4. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second filler material is injected into the interior cavity after the face portion is attached to the body portion.

5. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first filler material is placed in the first recessed portion before the face portion is attached to the body portion.

6. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least one physical property is elasticity or density.

7. A golf club head as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second filler material fills a portion of the interior cavity between the face portion and the first filler material.

8. A golf club head comprising:

a body portion comprising a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a hosel portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, a sole portion with a sole portion edge, a front portion with a front opening, a back portion with a back wall portion, and an interior cavity having a center portion and a perimeter portion;

a face portion attached to the body portion over the front opening to close the interior cavity, the face portion having a back surface and a front surface configured to strike a golf ball;

a first filler material in the center portion of the interior cavity, the first filler material being engaged to an inner surface of the back wall portion and extending from the inner surface of the back wall portion toward the face portion to define a gap between the first filler material and a back surface of the face portion;

a second filler material filling the gap and the perimeter portion of the interior cavity, the second filler material being engaged to the back surface of the face portion and being engaged to the back wall portion;

a port connected to the perimeter portion of the interior cavity;

wherein the second filler material is injected into the interior cavity from the port,

wherein at least one physical property of the first filler material is different from at least one physical property of the second filler material,

wherein a maximum width of the interior cavity includes the first filler material and the second filler material, and

wherein a minimum width of the interior cavity includes the second filler material.

9. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the maximum width of the interior cavity is above the port.

10. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the maximum width of the interior cavity is below the port.

11. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein a width of the first filler material is greater than a width of the second filler material at the maximum width of the interior cavity.

12. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising a mass portion comprising a material having a greater density than a material of the body portion, wherein a distance between the mass portion and the toe portion edge is less than a distance between the mass portion and the hosel portion.

13. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 , wherein the at least one physical property is elasticity or density.

14. A golf club head as defined in claim 8 further comprising a mass portion made from a material having a different density than a density of a material of the body portion, wherein the port is configured to receive the mass portion to close the port.

15. A golf club comprising:

a golf club grip;

a golf club shaft having a first end portion configured to receive the golf club grip and a second end portion;

a golf club head attached to the second end portion of the golf club shaft, the golf club head comprising a body portion including a toe portion with a toe portion edge, a hosel portion, a top portion with a top portion edge, a sole portion with a sole portion edge, a front portion, a back portion with a back wall portion, and an interior cavity comprising:

a first recessed portion having a center portion of the interior cavity including a maximum width of the interior cavity; and

a second recessed portion at least partially surrounding the first recessed portion and located at or proximate to a perimeter portion of the body portion;

a face portion attached to the front portion to enclose the interior cavity;

a port connected to the second recessed portion, a distance between the port and the toe portion edge being less than a distance between the port and the hosel portion;

a first filler material in the first recessed portion, and

a second filler material in the second recessed portion,

wherein the first filler material and at least a portion of the second filler material engage an inner surface of the back wall portion, and

wherein at least one physical property of the first filler material is different from at least one physical property of the second filler material.

16. A golf club as defined in claim 15 , wherein the at least one physical property is elasticity or density.

17. A golf club as defined in claim 15 , wherein the maximum width of the interior cavity is above the port.

18. A golf club as defined in claim 15 , wherein the first filler material is placed in the first recessed portion before the face portion is attached to the body portion to enclose the interior cavity, and wherein the second filler material is injected into the interior cavity after the face portion is attached to the body portion.

19. A golf club as defined in claim 15 further comprising a mass portion comprising a material having a greater density than a material of the body portion, wherein a distance between the mass portion and the toe portion edge is less than a distance between the mass portion and the hosel portion.

20. A golf club as defined in claim 15 , wherein a width of the first filler material is greater than a width of the second filler material at the maximum width of the interior cavity.
