Abstract

A hydraulic fracturing system includes a turbine generator for producing electricity at a well site, the turbine generator producing electrical energy at a voltage. The system also includes an electric pump electrically coupled to the turbine generator and receiving operative power from the turbine generator. The system further includes switch gear arranged between the electric pump and the turbine generator, the switch gear distributing electrical energy from the turbine generator to the electric pump, wherein the voltage remains substantially constant from the turbine generator to the electric pump.

Claims (38)

1. A system for power transmission for hydraulic fracturing, comprising:

a first well site positioned at a first location, the first well site comprising:

a turbine generator for producing electricity at the first well site, the turbine generator producing electrical energy at a voltage;

one or more power distribution circuits to receive and transmit the energy produced by the turbine generator, where transmission from the one or more power distribution circuits maintains the voltage at a substantially constant level;

a second well site positioned at a second location, remote from the first well site, the second well site comprising:

a second well site electric pump electrically coupled to and receiving operative power from the one or more power distribution circuits at the first well site;

wherein the voltage remains substantially constant from the turbine generator to the second well site electric pump.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the turbine generator comprises a plurality of turbine generators and the second well site electric pump comprises a plurality of second well site electric pumps.

3. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a plurality of first well site electric pumps, positioned at the first well site, and to be coupled to and to receive operative power from the turbine generator via the one or more power distribution circuits, wherein the voltage remains substantially constant from the turbine generator to the plurality of first well site electric pumps.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more power distribution circuits and the second well site electric pump comprise indicators, the indicators identifying respective outlet and inlet connectors of the one or more power distribution circuits and second well site electric pump that are coupled together via a power cable.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second well site is approximately 2 miles from the first well site.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second well site is less than 10 miles from the first well site.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second well site does not include on-site power generation capabilities.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the turbine generator produces the electrical energy at approximately 4,160 V.

9. A hydraulic fracturing system, comprising:

a plurality of turbine generators for producing electricity at a first well site, the plurality of turbine generators producing electrical energy at a voltage;

a power distribution system, arranged at the first well site, for distributing the electrical energy produced by the plurality of turbine generators, wherein the voltage received at the power distribution system is substantially constant with respect to the voltage distributed from the power distribution system; and

a plurality of second well site electric pumps at a second well site, different from the first well site, the plurality of second well site electric pumps coupled to the power distribution system and operable at the voltage.

10. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 9 , wherein at least one second well site electric pump of the plurality of second well site electric pumps is coupled to the power distribution system via a cable.

11. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 9 , wherein two or more second well site electric pumps of the plurality of second well site electric pumps are arranged on a common support.

12. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 11 , wherein the common support is at least one of a trailer or a skid.

13. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 9 , further comprising:

a variable frequency drive connected to a motor associated with a second well site electric pump of the plurality of second well site electric pumps.

14. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 13 , wherein the second well site electric pump of the plurality of second well site electric pumps and the variable frequency drive are positioned on a common support structure.

15. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 9 , further comprising:

a blender unit, at the second well site, receiving a fluid and proppant, the blender unit combining the fluid and proppant to form a slurry, wherein the blender unit receives electrical energy at the voltage; and

a hydration unit, at the second well site, distributing the fluid to the blender unit, wherein the hydration unit receives electrical energy at the voltage.

16. The hydraulic fracturing system of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of turbine generators produce electricity having the voltage substantially equal to at least one of 600 V, 4,160 V, or 13.8 kV.

17. A method for hydraulic fracturing operations, comprising:

producing, using a turbine generator, electricity at a voltage at a first well site;

receiving the electricity at a power distribution system at the first well site;

transmitting the electricity, at the voltage, from the first well site to a second well site; and

operating an electric pump at the second well site at the voltage with the electrify produced at the first well site.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the first well site and the second well site are remote from one another.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the turbine generator produces electricity having the voltage substantially equal to at least one of 600 V, 4,160 V, or 13.8 kV.

20. The method of claim 17 , further comprising:

operating one or more fracturing support components, at the second well site, via electricity from the first well site at the voltage.
