Abstract

The present invention provides a method for preparing a bone protein preparation which contains for example growth factors. The present invention also provides a bone protein preparation obtained by the method and paste, putty, pellet, disc, block, granule, osteogenic device or pharmaceutical composition containing said bone protein preparation.

Claims (18)

1. An osteogenic bone implant comprising a porous matrix of a tricalcium phosphate (TCP) combined with a species of biglycan that migrates on SDS-PAGE at approximately 15 kDa, the species of biglycan obtained from a guanidine hydrochloride extract of reindeer bone.

2. The bone implant of claim 1 , further comprising a species of chondroadherin, which migrates on SDS-PAGE at approximately 15 kDa.

3. The bone implant of claim 1 , further comprising Matrix Gla protein, BMP-2, BMP-7 and TGF-beta 1 and, wherein said reindeer bone protein guanidine hydrochloride extract has a pH of 3.9-4.5.

4. The bone implant of claim 1 , further comprising osteonectin.

5. The bone implant of claim 1 , wherein said reindeer bone protein guanidine hydrochloride extract is further combined with polyethylene glycol, and glycerol to generate a bone preparation.

6. The bone implant of claim 5 , wherein said bone preparation is a paste.

7. A method of inducing formation of bone or cartilage in a subject comprising providing the bone implant of claim 1 to a bone or cartilage of said subject.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein said bone implant further comprises polyethylene glycol, and glycerol.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein said bone implant is a paste.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising determining the formation of bone or cartilage in said subject.

11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising determining the formation of bone or cartilage in said subject.

12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising determining the formation of bone or cartilage in said subject.

13. The bone implant of claim 1 , wherein the TCP is beta-TCP.

14. The bone implant of claim 2 , wherein the TCP is beta-TCP.

15. The bone implant of claim 3 , wherein the TCP is beta-TCP.

16. The bone implant of claim 4 , wherein the TCP is beta-TCP.

17. The bone implant of claim 5 , wherein the TCP is beta-TCP.

18. The bone implant of claim 6 , wherein the TCP is beta-TCP.
