Abstract

A method for evaluating a laser cut edge of a workpiece includes capturing image data of the laser cut edge and its surroundings, segmenting the image data, and identifying a segment of interest of the image data. The segment of interest comprises image data of the laser cut edge. The method further includes carrying out an image quality detection for the segment of interest and generating, based on the image quality detection, an output for a user.

Claims (33)

1. A method for evaluating a laser cut edge of a workpiece, the method comprising:

A) capturing image data of the laser cut edge and its surroundings, wherein the laser cut edge is formed by laser cutting of the workpiece using a laser cutting machine;

B) segmenting the image data and identifying a segment of interest of the image data performed by one or more processors, wherein the segment of interest comprises image data of the laser cut edge;

C) carrying out an image quality detection for the segment of interest performed by the one or more processors, wherein the image quality detection comprises detecting an image sharpness of the segment of interest;

D) determining by the one or more processors, based on the image quality detection, whether the image sharpness is sufficient;

E) performing by the one or more processors the following steps:

upon determining that the image sharpness is not sufficient, generating an output for the user on the output interface, the output recommending recording new image data of the laser cut edge and its surroundings; and

upon determining that the image sharpness is sufficient, evaluating a quality of the laser cut edge based on the image data of the laser cut edge;

determining at least one method parameter based on the quality of the laser cut edge; and

forwarding the at least one method parameter to a controller for controlling the laser cutting machine to perform laser cutting of further workpieces.

2. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein step B) involves determining and storing, for each respective pixel of the image data, whether the respective pixel represents a part of the laser cut edge.

3. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein step B) is performed by a neural network.

4. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the detecting the image sharpness comprises a transformation of the image data of the segment of interest into a frequency domain, and wherein the detecting the image sharpness is carried out in the frequency domain.

5. The method as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising, before step A), receiving one or more material parameters and/or one or more machine parameters concerning the laser cut edge.

6. The method as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the one or more material parameters comprises one or more of a type of material of the workpiece or a thickness of the workpiece.

7. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the at least one method parameter comprises one of a laser power, a depth of focus, a feed speed, or a gas flow rate of the laser cutting machine.

8. A mobile terminal, comprising:

a camera configured to capture image data of a laser cut edge with surroundings; and

a communication interface configured to communicate the image data to a computing unit and to receive an output from the computing unit,

wherein the computing unit comprises one or more processors configured to:

segment the image data of the laser cut edge with surroundings and identify a segment of interest, wherein the segment of interest comprises image data of the laser cut edge,

perform an image quality detection by detecting an image sharpness of the segment of interest,

generate the output indicating whether the image sharpness is sufficient or recommending capturing new image data of the laser cut edge and the surroundings if the image sharpness is not sufficient;

evaluate a quality of the laser cut edge based on the image data of the laser cut edge upon determining that the image sharpness is sufficient, and

determine at least one method parameter based on the quality of the laser cut edge;

wherein the mobile terminal further comprises an output interface to display the output received from the computing unit, and wherein the communication interface is further configured to forward the at least one method parameter to a controller for controlling the laser cutting machine to perform laser cutting of further workpieces.

9. The mobile terminal as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the mobile terminal can be embodied as a cellular phone, tablet computer or webcam.

10. The mobile terminal as claimed in claim 8 , further comprising at least one interface for receiving parameters concerning the laser cut edge.

11. The mobile terminal as claimed in claim 10 , wherein the at least one interface is embodied as input interface for a user and/or as a communication interface for communication with a laser cutting machine.

12. The mobile terminal as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the mobile terminal comprises the computing unit.

13. A system comprising:

a laser cutting machine configured to cut a laser cut edge into a workpiece by a laser beam, and

a mobile terminal as claimed in claim 8 .
