Abstract

Prefabricated wall panels simplify the constructive of building units and other structures. The prefabricated wall panels can include a set of conduits pre-installed within the wall panels that enable simplified installation and conduit routing within a building unit or structure. The set of conduits can include electrical conduit, plumbing conduit, HVAC conduit, networking conduit, fire alarm conduit, and fire sprinkler conduit. The prefabricated wall panels can include above-door cavities to assist with structure design and coupling conduits between prefabricated panels. The prefabricated panels can additionally include dual-headed fire sprinklers that enable one fire sprinkler conduit to spray into multiple rooms, reducing the overall number of fire sprinkler conduits required within a structure.

Claims (15)

1. A modular building unit comprising:

a prefabricated wall panel abutting a first room and a second room;

a first portion of pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe routed vertically within the prefabricated wall panel;

a second portion of pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe that extends into both the first room and the second room perpendicular to the first portion of pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe, the second portion of the pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe coupled to the first portion of the pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe via a T-coupling, a first end of the second portion of pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe extending into the first room and a second end of the second portion of pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe extending into the second room;

a first fire sprinkler coupled to the first end of the second portion of pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe, the first fire sprinkler positioned such that an above-threshold portion of the first room is within a spray range of the first fire sprinkler; and

a second fire sprinkler coupled to the second end of the second portion of pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe, the second fire sprinkler positioned such that an above-threshold portion of the second room is within a spray range of the second fire sprinkler.

2. The modular building unit of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe is coupled to a fire sprinkler conduit.

3. The modular building unit of claim 2 , wherein the fire sprinkler conduit is pre-installed or on-site installed within a second prefabricated panel.

4. The modular building unit of claim 3 , wherein the second prefabricated panel comprises a prefabricated ceiling panel.

5. The modular building unit of claim 3 , wherein the second prefabricated panel comprises a second prefabricated wall panel.

6. The modular building unit of claim 2 , wherein the fire sprinkler conduit enables the flow of water or fire suppressant through the fire sprinkler conduit and into the first room via the first fire sprinkler and the second room via the second fire sprinkler.

7. The modular building unit of claim 1 , wherein the first end of the second portion of the pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe extends into the first room at a location within the prefabricated wall panel within a threshold distance of a top of the prefabricated wall panel.

8. The modular building unit of claim 1 , wherein the spray range of a fire sprinkler comprises a distance from the fire sprinkler that water or fire suppressant reaches when the fire sprinkler is configured to spray water or fire suppressant within a room.

9. The modular building unit of claim 1 , further comprising a second prefabricated wall panel that abuts the first room opposite the prefabricated wall panel, and wherein the second prefabricated wall panel does not include pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe.

10. The modular building unit of claim 9 , wherein the second prefabricated wall panel abuts a third room, and further comprising a third prefabricated wall panel that abuts the third room opposite the second prefabricated wall panel, the third prefabricated wall panel comprising pre-installed fire sprinkler pipe that extends into the third room and coupled to a third fire sprinkler positioned such that an above-threshold portion of the third room is within a spray range of the third fire sprinkler.
