Abstract

An apparatus includes a network interface that receives a registration request and an event notification, the registration request indicating an identity of a sensor and a physical location of the sensor, the event notification identifying a location of an event. The apparatus also includes a processing unit that determines a first geofence, at least in part based on the location and a distance from the location. The processing unit determines that the sensor is within the first geofence, at least in part based on the physical location of the sensor. The network interface transmits a request indicating the sensor and receives a response including data associated with the sensor.

Claims (55)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving a registration request, an identification of a safety access device, and an event notification, the registration request indicating an identity of a sensor and a physical location of the sensor, the event notification identifying a location of an event;

determining a jurisdiction monitored by the safety access device;

determining a first geofence, at least in part based on the jurisdiction and an emergency service for the event;

determining a second geofence, at least in part based on the location and a distance from the location;

determining that the sensor is within the second geofence, at least in part based on the physical location of the sensor;

transmitting data representing the first geofence and the second geofence;

transmitting a sensor selection request indicating the identity of the sensor and at least one of the physical location of the sensor or a distance of the sensor from the event;

receiving a sensor selection response indicating the sensor;

transmitting a request indicating the sensor, at least in part based on the sensor selection response; and

receiving a response including data associated with the sensor.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

authenticating the safety access device, at least in part based on the first geofence and the identification of the safety access device, wherein the event notification indicates the identification of the safety access device.

3. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

determining a third geofence identifying an adjacent jurisdiction; and

transmitting a notification to a safety access device within the adjacent jurisdiction.

4. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a first sensor request indicating an Internet address of the safety access device; and

transmitting a second sensor request indicating the sensor, at least in part based on the location, the second sensor request indicating an Internet address of a third-party server.

5. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

determining the event, at least in part based on the identification of the safety access device.

6. An apparatus, comprising:

a network interface that receives a registration request, an identification of a safety access device, and an event notification, the registration request indicating an identity of a sensor and a physical location of the sensor, the event notification identifying a location of an event; and

a processing unit configured to determine a jurisdiction monitored by the safety access device, to determine a first geofence, at least in part based on the jurisdiction and an emergency service for the event, and to determine a second geofence, at least in part based on the location and a distance from the location, the processing unit further configured to determine that the sensor is within the second geofence, at least in part based on the physical location of the sensor, wherein

the network interface transmits data representing the first geofence and the second geofence and transmits a sensor selection request indicating the identity of the sensor and at least one of the physical location of the sensor or a distance of the sensor from the event,

the network interface receives a sensor selection response indicating the sensor, and the network interface transmits a request indicating the sensor, at least in part based on the sensor selection response, and receives a response including data associated with the sensor.

7. The apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the event notification indicates the identification of the safety access device, and the processing unit further is configured to authenticate the safety access device, at least in part based on the first geofence and the identification of the safety access device.

8. The apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the processing unit further is configured to determine a third geofence identifying an adjacent jurisdiction, and the network interface transmits a notification to a safety access device within the adjacent jurisdiction.

9. The apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the network interface receives a first sensor request indicating an Internet address of the safety access device, and the network interface transmits a second sensor request indicating the sensor, at least in part based on the location, the second sensor request indicating an Internet address of a third-party server.

10. The apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the registration request includes an Internet address for the sensor, the network interface transmits a ping request to the Internet address for the sensor, and the network interface receives a ping response indicating the sensor.

11. The apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the processing unit further is configured to determine the event, at least in part based on the identification of the safety access device.

12. A non-transitory, computer-readable medium including instructions that, when executed by a processing unit, perform operations comprising:

receiving a registration request, an identification of a safety access device, and an event notification, the registration request indicating an identity of a sensor and a physical location of the sensor, the event notification identifying a location of an event;

determining a jurisdiction monitored by the safety access device;

determining a first geofence, at least in part based on the jurisdiction and an emergency service for the event;

determining a second geofence, at least in part based on the location and a distance from the location;

determining that the sensor is within the second geofence, at least in part based on the physical location of the sensor;

transmitting data representing the first geofence and the second geofence;

transmitting a sensor selection request indicating the identity of the sensor and at least one of the physical location of the sensor or a distance of the sensor from the event;

receiving a sensor selection response indicating the sensor;

transmitting a request indicating the sensor, at least in part based on the sensor selection response; and

receiving a response including data associated with the sensor.

13. The medium according to claim 12 , the operations further comprising:

authenticating the safety access device, at least in part based on the first geofence and the identification of the safety access device, wherein the event notification indicates the identification of the safety access device.

14. The medium according to claim 12 , the operations further comprising:

determining a third geofence identifying an adjacent jurisdiction; and

transmitting a notification to a safety access device within the adjacent jurisdiction.

15. The medium according to claim 12 , the operations further comprising:

receiving a first sensor request indicating an Internet address of the safety access device; and

transmitting a second sensor request indicating the sensor, at least in part based on the location, the second sensor request indicating an Internet address of a third-party server.

16. The medium according to claim 12 , the operations further comprising:

transmitting a ping request to an Internet address for the sensor, wherein the registration request includes the Internet address for the sensor; and

receiving a ping response indicating the sensor.

17. The medium according to claim 12 , the operations further comprising:

determining the event, at least in part based on the identification of the safety access device.
