Abstract

Exemplary embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to systems, methods, and computer-readable media configured to autonomously track a round of golf and/or autonomously generate personalized recommendations for a user before, during, or after a round of golf. The systems and methods can utilize course data, environmental data, user data, and/or equipment data in conjunctions with one or more machine learning algorithms to autonomously generate the personalized recommendations.

Claims (48)

1. A method of autonomously generating personalized recommendations for a user before, during, or after a round of golf, the method comprising:

retrieving at least one of course data, environmental data, user data, or equipment data from at least one of one or more sensors or one or more data sources, at least one of the course data, the environmental data, or the user data including one or more images captured by an imaging sensor at a golf course;

executing of one or more machine learning algorithms to autonomously generate a recommendation or analysis for the user, the one or more machine learning algorithms autonomously generating the recommendation or analysis based on the course data, the environmental data, the user data, or the equipment data; and

outputting the recommendation or analysis to the user.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more images include a sequence of images corresponding to a golf shot by the user.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

extracting data from the sequence of images to identify a golf swing of the user and an impact between a golf club of the user and a golf ball.

The method of claim 3 , wherein the data extracted from the sequence of images further comprises at least one of a movement of the user, a type of golf club used for the golf swing, a velocity of the golf ball, a velocity of the golf club, a trajectory of the golf ball, or an angle of impact between the golf club and the golf ball, a face angle of the golf club at impact with the golf ball, a club path during a golf swing, a location at which the golf ball makes impact with the golf club for a golf shot or a practice shot, a spin rate of the golf ball after the golf ball is hit by the golf club, or a spin axis or direction of rotation of the golf ball after the golf ball is hit by the golf club.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more images include at least one image of the golf course.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

extracting data from the at least one image corresponding to at least one of conditions of the golf course, a distance to a green on the golf course, hole on the green, or hazards on the golf course.

7. A method of autonomously tracking a round of golf on a golf course, the method comprising:

detecting, by an electronic device, a location of a user on a golf course;

capturing, by an imaging sensor, a sequence of images;

extracting, by the processor, data from the sequence of images to recognize a golf ball and a golf club in the sequence of images;

detecting, by a processor, a golf shot based on the data extracted from the sequence of images; and

associating, by the processor, the golf shot with the location of the user on the golf course.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the imaging sensor is integrated with electronic device.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the imaging sensor is separate from the electronic device.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

detecting at least one of a movement of the user, a type of golf club used for the golf swing, a velocity of the golf ball, a velocity of the golf club, a trajectory of the golf ball, an angle of impact between the golf club and the golf ball, a face angle of the golf club at impact with the golf ball, a club path during a golf swing, a location at which the golf ball makes impact with the golf club for a golf shot or a practice shot, a spin rate of the golf ball after the golf ball is hit by the golf club, or a spin axis or direction of rotation of the golf ball after the golf ball is hit by the golf club.

11. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

detecting, by the processor, at least one phase of a golf swing based on an output of an accelerometer operatively coupled to the golf club; and

controlling, by the processor, the imagining sensors to capture the sequence of images in response to detecting the at least one phase of the golf swing.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the at least one phase of the golf swing is an addressing phase or a backswing phase.

13. The method of claim 7 , wherein the imaging sensor is embedded, secured, or affixed to an article of clothing the user.

14. The method of claim 7 , wherein the imaging sensor is embedded, secured, or affixed to the golf club.

15. A system for autonomously tracking a round of golf on a golf course, the system comprising:

an electronic device, the electronic device determines a location of a user on a golf course;

an imaging sensor, the imaging sensor captures a sequence of images; and

a processor programmed to:

extract data from the sequence of images to recognize a golf ball and a golf club in the sequence of images;

detect a golf shot based on the data extracted from the sequence of images; and

associate the golf shot with the location of the user on the golf course.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the imaging sensor is integrated with the electronic device.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the imaging sensor is separate from the electronic device.

The system of claim 15 , wherein the processor is programmed to detect at least one of a movement of the user, a type of golf club used for the golf swing, a velocity of the golf ball, a velocity of the golf club, a trajectory of the golf ball, or an angle of impact between the golf club and the golf ball, a face angle of the golf club at impact with the golf ball, a club path during a golf swing, a location at which the golf ball makes impact with the golf club for a golf shot or a practice shot, a spin rate of the golf ball after the golf ball is hit by the golf club, or a spin axis and/or direction of rotation of the golf ball after the golf ball is hit by the golf club based on the data extracted from the sequence of images.

19. The system of claim 15 , further comprising:

an accelerometer;

the processor is programmed to detect at least one phase of a golf swing based on an output of the accelerometer operatively coupled to the golf club; and

the processor is programmed to control the imagining sensors to capture the sequence of images in response to detecting the at least one phase of the golf swing.

20. The system of claim 15 , wherein the imaging sensor is embedded, secured, or affixed to at least one of an article of clothing the user or the golf club.

21. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions, wherein execution of the instructions by a processor causes the processor to:

detect a location of a user on a golf course;

control an imaging sensor to capture a sequence of images;

extract data from the sequence of images to recognize a golf ball and a golf club in the sequence of images;

detect a golf shot based on the data extracted from the sequence of images; and

associate the golf shot with the location of the user on the golf course.
