Abstract

An envelope is configured to hold, support, and protect an article such as a blood bag during transportation under cryogenic temperatures. The envelope includes a single piece component (e.g., a monolithic component), including multiple panels that are configured to fold to form an enclosure that surrounds the article such as the blood bag for support and protection of the article such as the blood bag.

Claims (59)

1. An apparatus configured to form an envelope for holding a blood bag, comprising:

a plurality of panels including a front panel, a back panel, a pouch back panel, a pouch front panel, a first outer edge panel, a second outer edge panel, a third outer edge panel, a first inner edge panel, and a second inner edge panel, the plurality of panels configured to fold to form an enclosure to hold the blood bag, the enclosure including an inner pouch at least partially defined by the pouch front panel, the pouch back panel, the first inner edge panel, and the second inner edge panel, wherein the front panel comprises a front internal panel surrounded entirely by front side panels, the front side panels defining a perimeter around the front internal panel.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the back panel comprises a back internal panel surround by back side panels, the back side panels defining a second perimeter around the back internal panel.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the envelope is made from a polymeric material.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein:

the pouch front panel is separated from the pouch back panel by a fold line,

the pouch back panel is separated from the back panel by a second fold line, and

the back panel is separated from the front panel by a third fold line.

5. An apparatus configured to form an envelope for holding a blood bag, comprising:

a plurality of panels including a front panel, a back panel, a pouch back panel, a pouch front panel, a first outer edge panel, a second outer edge panel, a third outer edge panel, a first inner edge panel, and a second inner edge panel, the plurality of panels configured to fold to form an enclosure to hold the blood bag, the enclosure including an inner pouch at least partially defined by the pouch front panel, the pouch back panel, the first inner edge panel, and the second inner edge panel, wherein:

the front panel comprises a front internal panel surrounded by front side panels,

the front side panels defining a perimeter around the front panel,

the back panel comprises a back internal panel surround by back side panels, the back side panels defining a second perimeter around the back panel, and

the back side panels and the front side panels are configured to at least partially define a crumple zone in response to the envelope being in an assembled state, the crumple zone configured to dampen forces exposed to the blood bag during transport of the blood bag.

6. An apparatus configured to form an envelope for holding a blood bag, comprising:

a plurality of panels including a front panel, a back panel, a pouch back panel, a pouch front panel, a first outer edge panel, a second outer edge panel, a third outer edge panel, a first inner edge panel, and a second inner edge panel, the plurality of panels configured to fold to form an enclosure to hold the blood bag, the enclosure including an inner pouch at least partially defined by the pouch front panel, the pouch back panel, the first inner edge panel, and the second inner edge panel, wherein

the pouch front panel is separated from the pouch back panel by a fold line,

the pouch back panel is separated from the back panel by a second fold line,

the back panel is separated from the front panel by a third fold line,

the pouch back panel is configured to fold over the second fold line, subsequently

the pouch front panel is configured to fold over the fold line, subsequently

the first inner edge panel is configured to fold over a fourth fold line,

the second inner edge panel is configured to fold over a fifth fold line, and

the inner pouch is formed in response to coupling the first inner edge panel and

the second inner edge panel to the pouch front panel.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the first inner edge panel and the second inner edge panel are configured to couple to the pouch front panel via an adhesive.

8. An envelope for holding an article, comprising:

a plurality of panels including a front panel, a back panel, wherein:

the front panel further comprises an inner front panel and a plurality of front side panels,

the plurality of front side panels entirely surrounding the inner front panel, and

the plurality of front side panels define a perimeter of the inner front panel;

a pouch back panel, a pouch front panel, a first outer edge panel, a second outer edge panel, a third outer edge panel, a first inner edge panel, and a second inner edge panel;

an inner pouch formed from the pouch back panel, the pouch front panel, the first inner edge panel and the second inner edge panel, and

an outer enclosure defining a cavity, the outer enclosure formed from the front panel, the back panel, the first outer edge panel, the second outer edge panel, and the third outer edge panel, the inner pouch disposed within the cavity.

9. The envelope of claim 8 , wherein the inner pouch and the outer enclosure are a monolithic component.

10. The envelope of claim 8 , wherein the inner pouch is configured to house the article, wherein the article is a blood bag.

11. The envelope of claim 8 , wherein the pouch back panel is coupled to the back panel via a top crease.

12. The envelope of claim 8 , wherein the back panel further comprises:

an inner back panel, and

a plurality of back side panels defining a second perimeter of the inner back panel.

13. An envelope for holding an article, comprising:

a plurality of panels including a front panel, a back panel, a pouch back panel, a pouch front panel, a first outer edge panel, a second outer edge panel, a third outer edge panel, a first inner edge panel, and a second inner edge panel;

an inner pouch formed from the pouch back panel, the pouch front panel, the first inner edge panel and the second inner edge panel and

an outer enclosure defining a cavity, the outer enclosure formed from the front panel, the back panel, the first outer edge panel, the second outer edge panel, and the third outer edge panel, the inner pouch disposed within the cavity, wherein:

the front panel further comprises an inner front panel, and a plurality of front side panels defining a perimeter of the inner front panel,

the back panel further comprises an inner back panel, and a plurality of back side panels defining a second perimeter of the inner back panel, and

the plurality of back side panels and the plurality of front side panels form a crumple zone to protect the article disposed in the inner pouch.

14. A method of forming an envelope for holding an article from a plurality of panels including a front panel, a back panel, a pouch back panel, a pouch front panel, a first outer edge panel, a second outer edge panel, a third outer edge panel, a first inner edge panel, and a second inner edge panel, the method comprising:
