Abstract

The present disclosure provides topical compositions of rofecoxib and methods of making said compositions. The present disclosure also provides methods of using topical compositions of rofecoxib to treat inflammation.

Claims (20)

1. A topical composition comprising a therapeutically effective amount of from 0.1% w/w to 2.5% w/w rofecoxib, dissolved in a mixture of between about 0.1% w/w and about 15% w/w isosorbide dimethyl ether (DI), between about 0.1% w/w and about 5% w/w propylene carbonate (PC), and between about 12% w/w and about 15% w/w diisopropyl adipate (DIA), and a moisturizing agent.

2. The topical composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more pharmaceutical ingredients.

3. The topical composition of claim 2 , wherein the one or more pharmaceutical ingredients comprise an antihistamine.

4. The topical composition of claim 2 , wherein the one or more pharmaceutical ingredients comprise an anti-inflammatory agent.

5. The topical composition of claim 2 , wherein the one or more pharmaceutical ingredients comprise an analgesic.

6. The topical composition of claim 2 , wherein the one or more pharmaceutical ingredients comprise a hair growth stimulant.

7. The topical composition of claim 2 , wherein the one or more pharmaceutical ingredients comprise an antineoplastic or an anti-cancer active.

8. The topical composition of claim 1 , further comprising about 30% w/w to about 45% w/w PEG-400.

9. The topical composition of claim 1 , further comprising between about 5% w/w to about 8% w/w oleic acid.

10. The topical composition of claim 8 , furthercomprising between about 5% w/w to about 8% w/w oleic acid.

11. The topical composition of claim 1 , wherein the amount of DIA is about 12% w/w or about 15% w/w.

12. The topical composition of claim 11 , further comprising between about 5% w/w to about 8% w/w oleic acid.

13. The topical composition of claim 11 , further comprising about 30% w/w to about 45% www PEG-400.

14. The topical composition of claim 13 , further comprising between about 5% w/w to about 8% w/w oleic acid.

15. A method of reducing inflammation, comprising topically applying a therapeutically effective amount of the topical composition of claim 1 to the skin of a patient in need thereof, wherein said skin is at the site of inflammation.

16. A method of reducing inflammation, comprising topically applying a therapeutically effective amount of the topical composition of claim 8 to the skin of a patient in need thereof, wherein said skin is at the site of inflammation.

17. A method of reducing inflammation, comprising topically applying a therapeutically effective amount of the topical composition of claim 10 to the skin of a patient in need thereof, wherein said skin is at the site of inflammation.

18. A method of treating arthritis in a joint, comprising topically applying a therapeutically effective amount of the topical composition of claim 1 to the skin of a patient in need thereof, at the arthritic joint.

19. A method of treating psoriatic arthritis, comprising topically applying a therapeutically effective amount of the topical composition of claim 7 to the skin of a patient in need thereof.

20. A method of treating migraine, comprising topically applying a therapeutically effective amount of the topical composition of claim 5 to the skin of a patient in need thereof.
