Abstract

An optical based patient monitoring system employing an optical sensor and providing an indication of an optical change which does not correlate to a change in a physiological blood parameter and based on that indication, providing a care provider an indication of a condition of a patient. The optical based patient monitoring system providing the indication of the patient condition in relation to a patient using an IV setup.

Claims (36)

1. A system for generating an indicator of wellness from non-invasive monitoring of a patient with one or more sensors connected to the patient, said system comprising one or more hardware processors configured to:

receive sensor data from one or more sensors at a first time period;

measure values for a plurality of parameters based on the received sensor data;

receive parameter preferences corresponding to the plurality of parameters;

compare the measured values for the plurality of parameters with the received parameter preferences;

generate an indicator of the wellness corresponding to the received sensor data at the first time period based on the comparison;

detect a change in measurement site of a sensor of the one or more sensors during a second time period subsequent to the first time period;

adjust a magnitude of a sensor signal received from the sensor during the second time period to maintain continuity of the indicator of the wellness between the first time period and the second time period based on the detected change in measurement site; and

control patient delivery of a medical gas or pharmacological agent based on the generated indicator of the wellness;

display the indicator of wellness on a display of a monitoring device.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the comparison comprises analyzing a trend in the measured values for the plurality of parameters.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the indicator is configured to trend towards a higher wellness score when the measured values are within the received parameter preferences.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the indicator is configured to trend towards a higher wellness score when the measured values follow a preferred trend.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more hardware processors is configured to generate a user interface and wherein the parameter preferences are selected by a user via the user interface.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the user is the patient.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more hardware processors are further configured to detect that the one or more sensors were removed from an old measurement site and secured to a new measurement site based on a comparison of a first value or first trend of the indicator from the old measurement site with a second value or second trend of the indicator from the new measurement site.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the one or more hardware processors are configured to adjust the sensor data or the measured values based on the comparison of the first value of the first trend with the second value of the second trend.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the indicator comprises a gauge.

10. A method for generating an indicator of wellness from non-invasive monitoring of a patient with one or more sensors connected to the patient, said method comprising:

receiving sensor data from one or more sensors at a first time period;

measuring values for a plurality of parameters based on the received sensor data;

receiving parameter preferences corresponding to the plurality of parameters;

comparing the measured values for the plurality of parameters with the received parameter preferences;

generating an indicator of the wellness corresponding to the received sensor data at the first time period based on the comparison;

detecting a change in measurement site of a sensor of the one or more sensors during a second time period subsequent to the first time period;

adjust a magnitude of a sensor signal received from the sensor during the second time period to maintain continuity of the indicator of the wellness between the first time period and the second time period based on the detected change in measurement site; and

controlling patient delivery of a medical gas or pharmacological agent based on the generated indicator of the wellness; and

displaying the indicator of wellness on a display of a monitoring device.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the comparison comprises analyzing a trend in the measured values for the plurality of parameters.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the indicator is configured to trend towards a higher wellness score when the measured values are within the received parameter preferences.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the indicator is configured to trend towards a higher wellness score when the measured values follow a preferred trend.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the parameter preferences are selected by a user.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the user is the patient.

The method of claim 10 , further comprising detecting that the one or more sensors were removed from an old measurement site and secured to a new measurement site based on a comparison of a first value or first trend of the indicator from the old measurement site with a second value or second trend of the indicator from the new measurement site.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising adjusting the sensor data or the measured values based on the comparison of the first value of the first trend with the second value of the second trend.

18. The method of claim 10 , wherein the indicator comprises a gauge.
