Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for an apparatus and method for practicing injection techniques through an injectable apparatus. The injectable apparatus may contain a camera that is configured to provide three-dimensional location information for a testing tool based on light attenuated from the testing tool after it is injected into a simulated human or animal body parts. A training tool may be connected to a user display device to generate a display of the injection apparatus as well as the performance parameters of a trainee.

Claims (37)

1. A method of evaluating a testing injection, the method comprising:

providing an injection apparatus configured to simulate an anatomical shape;

receiving instructions to simulate a preset patient condition or treatment;

performing the testing injection on the injection apparatus using a testing tool, the testing injection simulating injecting a medical product for the preset patient condition or treatment, the testing tool comprising a needle tip;

determining injection information associated with the testing injection using a three-dimensional tracking sensor, the injection information comprising a first three-dimensional needle tip location and a second three-dimensional needle tip location during the testing injection;

calculating a score of the testing injection based on the injection information for an injector who performed the testing injection;

determining a separate score or ranking of the injector based on multiple testing injections performed by the injector to simulate injecting the medical product for the preset patient condition or treatment; and

outputting for display on a display device:

the separate score or ranking of the injector for injecting the medical product for the preset patient condition or treatment.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first three-dimensional needle tip location is obtained when the needle tip of the testing tool reaches a starting location of the testing injection.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the second three-dimensional needle tip location is obtained when the needle tip of the testing tool reaches an ending location of the testing injection.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the injection information further comprises a third three-dimensional needle tip location between the starting location and the ending location of the testing injection.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the injection information further comprises a trajectory path connecting the first three-dimensional needle tip location, the second three-dimensional needle tip location, and the third three-dimensional needle tip location.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the anatomical shape comprises a human skull shape.

The method of claim 1 , further comprising calibrating the testing tool and the three-dimensional tracking sensor to obtain calibration information by placing the testing tool at a predetermined location and calibrating output of the three-dimensional tracking sensor relative to the predetermined location.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the injection information is determined based on an input from the three-dimensional tracking sensor and the calibration information.

The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving an input of a display point of view, the input of the display point of view identifying a virtual location in space from which to view a three-dimensional likeness of the anatomical shape, and wherein the display device displays indications of the first three-dimensional needle tip location and the second three-dimensional needle tip location on the three-dimensional likeness of the anatomical shape based on the input of the display point of view.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying an animation of the testing tool being injected into a three-dimensional likeness of the anatomical shape on the display device.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising a force or pressure sensor configured to measure a force or pressure applied during the testing injection.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising analyzing compiled injection information of different injectors using the testing tool to determine one or both of an effectiveness of injecting the medical product or a risk associated with injecting the medical product.

13. A method of evaluating a testing injection, the method comprising:

providing an injection apparatus configured to simulate an anatomical shape;

receiving instructions to simulate a preset patient condition or treatment;

performing the testing injection on the injection apparatus using a testing tool, the testing injection simulating injecting a medical product for the preset patient condition or treatment, the testing tool comprising a needle tip;

using one or more sensors, wherein the one or more sensors comprise a three-dimensional tracking sensor:

measuring first injection information when the needle tip of the testing tool reaches a starting location of the testing injection;

measuring second injection information when the needle tip of the testing tool reaches an ending location of the testing injection; and

measuring third injection information when the needle tip of the testing tool is at an intermediate location between the starting location and the ending location of the testing injection;

evaluate an accuracy of the testing injection for an injector who performed the testing injection based at least in part on a trajectory path of the testing tool connecting the starting location, the intermediate location, and the ending location based on the first injection information, the second injection information, and the third injection information; and

determining a separate score or ranking of the injector based on multiple testing injections performed by the injector.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the anatomical shape comprises a human skull shape.

15. The method of claim 13 , further comprising calibrating the testing tool and the three-dimensional tracking sensor to obtain calibration information.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the first injection information, the second injection information, or the third injection information is determined based on input from the three-dimensional tracking sensor and the calibration information.

The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving an input of a display point of view, the input of the display point of view identifying a virtual location in space from which to view a three-dimensional likeness of the anatomical shape, and wherein a display device displays the trajectory path of the testing tool on the three-dimensional likeness of the anatomical shape based on the input of the display point of view.

18. The method of claim 13 , further comprising displaying an animation of the testing tool being injected into a three-dimensional likeness of the anatomical shape on a display device.

19. The method of claim 13 , wherein the one or more sensors further comprise a force or pressure sensor configured to measure a force or pressure applied during the testing injection.

20. The method of claim 13 , further comprising analyzing compiled injection information of different injectors using the testing tool to determine one or both of an effectiveness of injecting the medical product or a risk associated with injecting the medical product.
