Abstract

Systems and methods for performing an osteotomy are presented. Examples include forming a fusion osteotomy at a metatarsocuneiform joint of the first ray of a human foot.

Claims (11)

1. An osteotomy system that facilitates performance of an osteotomy between a metatarsus and a cuneiform defining a metatarsocuneiform joint of a human foot, the osteotomy system comprising:

an osteotomy guide comprising a first cutting guide slot and a second cutting guide slot spaced apart from each other and one or more fixation holes, wherein the first cutting guide slot and second cutting guide slot are angled relative to one another; wherein the osteotomy system further comprising a joint-seeking paddle configured to be placed within the metatarsocuneiform joint and a joint alignment slot;

and one or more pins configured to be received by the one or more fixation holes and inserted into the metatarsus or cuneiform.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the joint alignment slot is spaced apart from the first and second cutting guide slots.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein when the joint-seeking paddle is positioned within the metatarsocuneiform joint and through the joint alignment slot, the first cutting guide slot is positioned over the metatarsus and the second cutting guide slot is positioned over the cuneiform.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more fixation holes comprise at least one fixation hole between the first cutting guide slot and a first end of the guide, and at least one fixation hole between the second cutting guide slot and a second end of the guide.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the osteotomy guide comprises a one-piece guide body comprising both the first and second guide slots.

6. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a saw configured to be guided by the first cutting guide slot or the second cutting guide slot.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more pins, plates, screws, or rods configured to fix the metatarsus and cuneiform together.

8. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a compressor, the compressor comprising a first member configured to be secured to the metatarsus and a second member configured to be secured to the cuneiform.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the first and second members are engaged in a linear sliding relationship.
