Abstract

An improved medical device reduces the loss of longitudinal length during expansion of a stent-graft from a compressed state to an expanded state. For example, the stent-graft is placed over a cover that provides resistance to expansion of the balloon during inflation, which reduces longitudinal compressing forces exerted on the stent-graft.

Claims (26)

1. A system comprising:

a stent-graft comprising a plurality of ringed stent elements disposed along a longitudinal axis between an inner graft element and an outer graft element;

a delivery device including a balloon assembly, the stent-graft being releasably secured over the balloon assembly in a diametrically compacted configuration with at least two ringed stent elements of the plurality of ringed stent elements moved closer together in a longitudinal direction to store longitudinal length in the inner and outer graft elements between the at least two ringed stent elements such that upon expanding the stent-graft with the balloon assembly toward a deployed configuration the stored longitudinal length is recovered and a distance between the at least two ringed stent elements is maintained.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the distance between the at least two ringed stent elements is between 1 mm and 2 mm.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least two ringed stent elements each include an apex, and wherein the apices of each ringed stent element are positioned adjacent one another such that the two ringed stent elements are in phase.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the system further comprises a plurality of intra-ring graft elements positioned between various of the plurality of ringed stent elements.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the system includes a first intra-ring graft defined by a portion of the inner graft element and the outer graft element between the at least two ringed stent elements.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the inner graft member and the outer graft member are composed of an expanded polymer.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of ringed stent elements are secured through a bonding between the inner graft element and the outer graft element.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the balloon assembly includes a balloon, and wherein the delivery device further comprises a cover positioned coaxially over the balloon.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the balloon comprises a plurality of pleats extending along at least a portion of the balloon.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the cover comprises a plurality of pleats extending along at least a portion of the cover, and wherein the plurality of pleats of the balloon and the plurality of pleats of the cover include the same amount of pleats.

11. A system comprising:

a stent-graft including,

a plurality of ringed stent elements, and

a graft construct, the plurality of ringed stent elements disposed along the graft construct; and

a delivery device including a balloon assembly, the stent-graft being releasably secured over the balloon assembly in a diametrically compacted configuration with at least two ringed stent elements of the plurality of ringed stent elements moved closer together in a longitudinal direction to store longitudinal length in the inner and outer graft elements between the at least two ringed stent elements such that upon expanding the stent-graft with the balloon assembly toward a deployed configuration the stored longitudinal length is recovered and a distance between the at least two ringed stent elements is maintained.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the distance between the at least two ringed stent elements is between 1 mm and 2 mm.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least two ringed stent elements each include an apex, and wherein the apex of each ringed stent element are positioned adjacent one another such that the two ringed stent elements are in phase.

14. The system of claim 11 , wherein the system further comprises a plurality of intra-ring graft elements positioned between various of the plurality of ringed stent elements.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the system includes a first intra-ring graft defined by a portion of the inner graft element and the outer graft element between the at least two ringed stent elements.

16. The system of claim 11 , wherein the inner graft member and the outer graft member are composed of an expanded polymer.

17. The system of claim 11 , wherein each of the plurality of ringed stent elements are secured through a bonding between the inner graft element and the outer graft element.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the balloon assembly includes a balloon, and wherein the delivery device further comprises a cover positioned coaxially over the balloon.

19. The system of claim 18 , wherein the balloon comprises a plurality of pleats extending along at least a portion of the balloon.

20. The system of claim 18 , wherein the cover comprises a plurality of pleats extending along at least a portion of the cover, and wherein the plurality of pleats of the balloon and the plurality of pleats of the cover include the same amount of pleats.
