Abstract

A military vehicle includes a passenger capsule. The passenger capsule includes a sidewall defining a front door aperture and a rear door aperture, a front door positioned over the front door aperture, a rear door positioned over the rear door aperture, and a latching mechanism configured to secure the front door and the rear door in a closed positioned. The sidewall includes an interlocking door frame portion positioned (i) along an exterior of the sidewall between the front door aperture and the rear door aperture and (ii) proximate the latching mechanism such that the front door and the rear door engage with the interlocking door frame portion positioned along the exterior of the sidewall between the front door aperture and the rear door aperture when the front door and the rear door are closed and engaged with the latching mechanism.

Claims (46)

1. A military vehicle comprising:

a front differential that defines an engine mount configured to at least partially support an engine; and

a passenger capsule including:

a sidewall defining a front door aperture and a rear door aperture;

a front door positioned over the front door aperture; and

a rear door positioned over the rear door aperture;

wherein the sidewall includes an interlocking door frame portion positioned along an exterior of the sidewall between the front door aperture and the rear door aperture such that the front door and the rear door engage with the interlocking door frame portion positioned along the exterior of the sidewall between the front door aperture and the rear door aperture when the front door and the rear door are closed.

2. The military vehicle of claim 1 , further comprising a belly deflector positioned beneath a floor of the passenger capsule.

3. The military vehicle of claim 2 , wherein opposing lateral ends of the belly deflector engage the passenger capsule such that the belly deflector is separated from the floor.

4. The military vehicle of claim 2 , wherein the floor includes a tunnel extending along a longitudinal length thereof, the tunnel having an arcuate shaped profile that extends into an interior of the passenger capsule.

5. The military vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the interlocking door frame portion is configured to assist with keeping the front door and the rear door closed and in place during a blast event.

6. The military vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the passenger capsule includes a plurality of components that are bolted together to form the passenger capsule.

7. A military vehicle comprising:

a front differential;

a transaxle coupled to the front differential, the transaxle including an internal mechanical disconnect that facilitates decoupling the transaxle from the front differential; and

a passenger capsule including:

a sidewall defining a front door aperture and a rear door aperture;

a front door positioned over the front door aperture; and

a rear door positioned over the rear door aperture;

wherein the sidewall includes an interlocking door frame portion positioned along an exterior of the sidewall between the front door aperture and the rear door aperture such that the front door and the rear door engage with the interlocking door frame portion positioned along the exterior of the sidewall between the front door aperture and the rear door aperture when the front door and the rear door are closed.

8. The military vehicle of claim 7 , further comprising an actuator that is accessible from an exterior of the passenger capsule to engage the internal mechanical disconnect.

9. The military vehicle of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the front differential is a front structural component configured to at least partially support an engine or (ii) the transaxle is a rear structural component configured to at least partially support a suspension system.

10. A military vehicle comprising:

a front differential;

a transaxle coupled to the front differential, the transaxle including an internal mechanical disconnect that facilitates decoupling the transaxle from the front differential; and

a passenger capsule including:

a first sidewall defining a first front door aperture and a first rear door aperture, the first sidewall including a first interlocking door frame portion positioned along an exterior of the first sidewall between the first front door aperture and the first rear door aperture and protruding outward therefrom;

a second sidewall defining a second front door aperture and a second rear door aperture, the second sidewall including a second interlocking door frame portion positioned along an exterior of the second sidewall between the second front door aperture and the second rear door aperture and protruding outward therefrom;

a first front door positioned over the first front door aperture;

a second front door positioned over the second front door aperture;

a first rear door positioned over the first rear door aperture; and

a second rear door positioned over the second rear door aperture;

wherein the first interlocking door frame portion is positioned such that the first front door and the first rear door engage with the first interlocking door frame portion positioned along the exterior of the first sidewall between the first front door aperture and the first rear door aperture when the first front door and the first rear door are closed; and

wherein the second interlocking door frame portion is positioned such that the second front door and the second rear door engage with the second interlocking door frame portion positioned along the exterior of the second sidewall between the second front door aperture and the second rear door aperture when the second front door and the second rear door are closed.

11. The military vehicle of claim 10 , further comprising a belly deflector positioned beneath a floor of the passenger capsule, wherein opposing lateral ends of the belly deflector engage with the passenger capsule such that the belly deflector is separated from the floor.

12. The military vehicle of claim 11 , wherein the floor includes a tunnel extending along a longitudinal length thereof, the tunnel having an arcuate shaped profile that extends into an interior of the passenger capsule.

13. The military vehicle of claim 10 , wherein the first interlocking door frame portion and the second interlocking door frame portion are configured to assist with keeping (i) the first front door and the first rear door and (ii) the second front door and the second rear door, respectively, closed and in place during a blast event.

14. The military vehicle of claim 10 , wherein the passenger capsule includes the first sidewall, the second sidewall, a roof, a floor, a front end, and a rear end that are bolted together.

15. The military vehicle of claim 10 , further comprising an actuator that is accessible from an exterior of the passenger capsule to engage the internal mechanical disconnect.

16. The military vehicle of claim 10 , wherein at least one of the front differential is a front structural component configured to at least partially support an engine or (ii) the transaxle is a rear structural component configured to at least partially support a suspension system.

17. A military vehicle comprising:

a passenger compartment;

a front differential;

a transaxle coupled to the front differential, the transaxle including an internal mechanical disconnect that facilitates decoupling the transaxle from the front differential; and

an actuator that is accessible from an exterior of the passenger compartment to engage the internal mechanical disconnect.

18. The military vehicle of claim 17 , wherein at least one of (i) the front differential is a front structural component configured to at least partially support an engine or (ii) the transaxle is a rear structural component configured to at least partially support a suspension system.
