COMPACT ROTARY STEERABLE SYSTEM
A rotary steerable system including a steering section and a control section. A combined length of the steering section and the control section is less than 150 inches, preferably less than 80 inches, more preferably less than 75 inches, and most preferably less than 70 inches. A length to steering section diameter ration is less than 13, less than 12, less than 10, or less than 9. The steering section diameter is a minimum diameter of the steering section.
1 . A rotary steerable system, comprising a steering section and a control section, wherein a combined length of the steering section and the control section is less than 150 inches.
2 . The rotary steerable system of claim 1 , wherein a length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 13, wherein the steering section diameter is a minimum diameter of the steering section.
3 . The rotary steerable system of claim 1 , wherein the combined length is less than 80 inches.
4 . The rotary steerable system of claim 1 , wherein the combined length is less than 75 inches.
5 . The rotary steerable system of claim 1 , wherein the combined length is less than 70 inches.
6 . The rotary steerable system of claim 5 , wherein a length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 13, wherein the steering section diameter is a minimum diameter of the steering section.
7 . The rotary steerable system of claim 6 , wherein a steering section diameter is less than or equal to 5.25 inches.
8 . The rotary steerable system of claim 4 , wherein a length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 12, wherein the steering section diameter is a minimum diameter of the steering section.
9 . The rotary steerable system of claim 4 , wherein a length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 11, wherein the steering section diameter is a minimum diameter of the steering section.
10 . The rotary steerable system of claim 9 , wherein a steering section diameter is less than or equal to 6.75 inches.
11 . The rotary steerable system of claim 3 , wherein a length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 10, wherein the steering section diameter is a minimum diameter of the steering section.
12 . The rotary steerable system of claim 3 , wherein a length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 9, wherein the steering section diameter is a minimum diameter of the steering section.
13 . The rotary steerable system of claim 12 , wherein a steering section diameter is less than or equal to 9 inches.
14 . A rotary steerable system, comprising a steering section and a control section, wherein a length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 13, wherein the steering section diameter is a minimum diameter of the steering section.
15 . The rotary steerable system of claim 14 , wherein a steering section diameter is less than or equal to 5.25 inches.
16 . The rotary steerable system of claim 14 , wherein the length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 12.
17 . The rotary steerable system of claim 14 , wherein the length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 11, and wherein a steering section diameter is less than or equal to 6.75 inches.
18 . The rotary steerable system of claim 14 , wherein the length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 10.
19 . The rotary steerable system of claim 14 , wherein the length to steering section diameter ratio is less than 9, and wherein a steering section diameter is less than or equal to 9 inches.
20 . The rotary steerable system of claim 14 , wherein a maximum turn rate of the rotary steerable system is 14 degrees per 100 feet.
21 . The rotary steerable system of claim 14 , wherein a maximum turn rate of the rotary steerable system is 24 degrees per 100 feet.
22 . A rotary steerable system, comprising a steering section, wherein a length of the rotary steerable system is less than 150 inches.
23 . The rotary steerable system of claim 1 , wherein the length of the rotary steerable system is less than 80 inches.
24 . The rotary steerable system of claim 1 , wherein the length of the rotary steerable system is less than 75 inches.
25 . The rotary steerable system of claim 1 , wherein the length of the rotary steerable system is less than 70 inches.
