Abstract

A gaming machine having an audio channel outputting game sound and an audio channel intaking microphone sound and outputting chat sound is coupled with a headset having earpieces and a microphone and a Bluetooth transceiver in the headset for sending and receiving the microphone and chat sounds. A radio receiver or wired connection in the headset receives the game sounds. Circuitry in the headset is connected between the transceiver and receiver for mixing the microphone, chat, and game sounds and feeding them all to the earpieces.

Claims (33)

1. A headset, the headset comprising:

a pair of speakers configured to output sound according to one or more of a game signal, a chat signal, a microphone signal and an external audio signal;

a microphone configured to generate the microphone signal according to a voice of a user;

an RF circuit operable to communicate one or more of the game signal, the chat signal, the microphone signal and the external audio signal with a game controller, wherein the RF circuit is operable to communicate directly with the game controller; and

a signal processor configured to selectively manage the communication of the game signal, the chat signal, the microphone signal and the external audio signal.

2. The headset of claim 1 , wherein the RF circuit comprises a transceiver configured to send the microphone signal and receive the chat signal.

3. The headset of claim 2 , wherein the chat signal is from a mobile device.

4. The headset of claim 1 , wherein the RF circuit comprises a radio receiver configured to receive the game signal.

5. The headset of claim 1 , wherein the signal processor is configured to mix the microphone signal, the chat signal, and the game signal and feed a result to the pair of speakers.

6. The headset of claim 1 , wherein a game console provides the chat signal.

7. The headset of claim 1 , wherein the headset comprises a control configured to balance the game signal against the chat signal.

8. The headset of claim 1 , wherein the external audio signal is from a mobile device.

9. The headset of claim 1 , wherein the headset is operably coupled wirelessly to a game console.

10. The headset of claim 1 , wherein the external audio signal is from a mobile device, and the RF circuit is configured to transmit the microphone signal to the mobile device.

11. The headset of claim 1 , wherein the headset comprises a switch configured to select the external audio signal.

12. A method for operating a headset, the method comprising:

selectively managing, via a signal processor and an RF circuit, a communication of a game signal, a chat signal, a microphone signal and an external audio signal;

communicating, via the RF circuit, one or more of the game signal, the chat signal, the microphone signal and the external audio signal with a game controller, wherein the RF circuit is operable to communicate directly with the game controller; and

outputting sound, via a pair of speakers, according to one or more of the game signal, the chat signal, the microphone signal and the external audio signal.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the method comprises:

sending the microphone signal via a transceiver in the RF circuit; and

receiving the chat signal via the transceiver.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the method comprises receiving the game signal via a radio receiver in the RF circuit.

15. The method of claim 12 , wherein the method comprises:

mixing one or more of the game signal, the chat signal, the microphone signal and the external audio signal; and

feeding the result to the pair of speakers.

16. The method of claim 12 , wherein the method comprises receiving the chat signal from a game console.

17. The method of claim 12 , wherein the method comprises balancing the game signal against the chat signal.

18. The method of claim 12 , wherein the external audio signal is from a mobile device.

19. The method of claim 12 , wherein the method comprises wirelessly coupling the headset to a game console.

20. The headset of claim 12 , wherein the chat signal is from a mobile device.

21. The method of claim 12 , wherein the external audio signal is from a mobile device, and the method comprises transmitting the microphone signal to the mobile device.

22. The method of claim 12 , wherein the method comprises selecting the external audio signal via a switch of the headset.
