Abstract

The present disclosure provides a release launching system that is operative to receive and retain a drone or other payload in a protected launcher. The launcher helps to reduce the drag of the payload and to protect the payload from environmental factors. The payload is launched when a force initially separates the payload from the launcher and exposes a force generating mechanism. The force generating mechanism may be within the body portion of the device and generate an additional force to assist in separating the payload from the launcher. The payload may be launched using a biasing and fastening mechanism, which may include detachably coupling bracket, to allow for the separation of the payload from the launcher.

Claims (28)

1. A launcher comprising:

a body portion;

a bay area partially defined by the body portion;

a door portion connected to the body portion, the door portion operative to detachably connect to a configurable payload within the body portion while the door portion is connected to the launcher, the door portion being configured to rotate, causing rotation of the configurable payload as the configurable payload detaches from the door portion,

wherein the rotation of the door portion imparts an angular momentum onto the configurable payload, the imparted angular momentum causing an asymmetric release of the configurable payload from the door portion; and

a force applying portion attached to the door portion, the force applying portion configured to impart a force to the configurable payload, the force being configured to:

retain the configurable payload in a particular position within the body portion; and

detach the configurable payload from the door portion in response to the rotation of the door portion.

2. The launcher of claim 1 , wherein the door portion is further configured to retain the configurable payload by at least one of the following: a biasing mechanism and a fastening mechanism.

3. The launcher of claim 1 , wherein the door portion further comprises a payload drag mechanism configured to generate drag and create additional force to detach the door portion from the launcher.

4. The launcher of claim 3 , wherein the payload drag mechanism is positioned at a forward end of the door portion.

5. The launcher of claim 3 , wherein the payload drag mechanism of the configurable payload is integrated into the launcher without affect to aerodynamics of the launcher while the door portion is connected to the launcher.

6. The launcher of claim 3 , wherein the payload drag mechanism is connected to the body portion to secure the configurable payload to the launcher.

7. The launcher of claim 3 , wherein the generated drag from the door portion assists with the detachment of the configurable payload from the launcher.

8. The launcher of claim 1 , wherein the configurable payload is attached to the launcher independent of the door portion or the force applying portion.

9. The launcher of claim 1 , further comprising the configurable payload configured with a parachute.

10. The launcher of claim 9 , wherein the parachute is stored within the body portion.

11. The launcher of claim 9 , wherein the parachute is configured to deploy due to the detachment of the configurable payload from the launcher.

12. The launcher of claim 1 , wherein the configurable payload includes an unmanned aerial vehicle.

13. The launcher of claim 1 , wherein the body portion is configured to be connected to an aircraft.

14. The launcher of claim 13 , wherein the body portion is configured to be connected to an aircraft by a coupling assembly arranged between the body portion and a portion of the aircraft.

15. The launcher of claim 1 , wherein the bay area is partially defined by a cavity in the body portion.

16. The launcher of claim 1 , wherein the configurable payload comprises one or more of:

a drone,

a sensor,

a buoy,

a munition, or

an object suitable for deployment from within the launcher.
