Abstract

According to certain arrangements, a climate controlled bed includes an upper portion comprising a core with a top core surface and a bottom core surface. The core includes at least one passageway extending from the top core surface to the bottom core surface. The upper portion of the bed further includes at least one fluid distribution member positioned above the core, wherein the fluid distribution member is in fluid communication with at least one passageway of the core. The fluid distribution member is configured to at least partially distribute fluid within said fluid distribution member.

Claims (26)

1. An environmentally conditioned mattress, comprising:

a mattress core defining a core top surface, a core bottom surface, and core side surfaces, wherein the core side surfaces define a perimeter of the mattress, wherein the mattress core defines a recess at the core bottom surface that extends along and into at least part of the core bottom surface, wherein the mattress core defines a flow passage extending from the recess at the core bottom surface to the core top surface;

a fluid module housed in a first portion of the recess of the mattress core, wherein the first portion of the recess of the mattress core is sized and shaped to receive the fluid module in the first portion of the recess, wherein the recess of the mattress core is sized larger than the fluid module such that a second portion of the recess does not contain the fluid module, wherein the fluid module comprises a fluid transfer device configured to move fluid along the recess that extends along the bottom of the mattress core; and

a conduit that extends from the fluid module through the second portion of the recess.

2. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 1 , wherein the recess is defined by a vertically extending first side wall, a vertically extending second side wall positioned opposite of the vertically extending first side wall, and a horizontally extending top wall at a top of the recess.

3. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 2 , wherein a bottom of the recess is at least partially open to atmosphere.

4. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 1 , wherein the recess has curved side surfaces defined by the mattress core.

5. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 1 , wherein the recess extends to at least one of the core side surfaces.

6. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 1 , wherein the recess extends to a first of the core side surfaces and extends to a second of the core side surfaces that is perpendicular to the first of the core side surfaces.

7. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 1 , further comprising a mattress cover surrounding the core, including surrounding the core top surface, the core bottom surface, and the core side surfaces.

8. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 1 , wherein the fluid module is positioned in the first portion of the recess of the mattress core, wherein a first fluid flow path of the recess extends away from the fluid module along the core bottom surface in a first direction, and wherein the recess includes a second fluid flow path that extends away from the fluid module along the core bottom surface in a second direction that is different than the first direction.

9. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 1 , wherein the mattress core comprises foam and at least one air chamber.

10. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 1 , wherein the mattress core includes a fluid distribution member arranged below the core top surface and being in fluid communication with the fluid module via the conduit.

11. An environmentally conditioned mattress, comprising:

a mattress core defining a core top surface, a core bottom surface, and core side surfaces, wherein the core side surfaces define a perimeter of the mattress, wherein the mattress core defines a recess at the core bottom surface that extends along and into at least part of the core bottom surface, wherein the mattress core defines a flow passage extending from the recess at the core bottom surface to the core top surface;

a fluid module housed in a first portion of a recess of the mattress core, wherein the first portion of the recess of the mattress core is sized and shaped to receive the fluid module in the first portion of the recess, wherein the recess includes a second portion of the recess that does not contain the fluid module, wherein the fluid module comprises a fluid transfer device configured to draw air from a top of the mattress core to be exhausted from the fluid module into the recess at the core bottom surface; and

a conduit that extends from the fluid module through the second portion of the recess.

12. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 11 , wherein the recess is defined by a vertically extending first side wall, a vertically extending second side wall positioned opposite of the vertically extending first side wall, and a horizontally extending top wall at a top of the recess.

13. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 12 , wherein a bottom of the recess is open to atmosphere such that air drawn from the top of the mattress core and exhausted from the fluid module into the recess can exit the recess through the bottom of the recess that is open to atmosphere.

14. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 11 , wherein the second portion of the recess of the mattress core is sized larger than the fluid module and wherein the second portion of the recess does not contain the fluid module.

15. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 11 , wherein the recess is elongate with a first end and a second end, and wherein the fluid module is positioned at a location that is nearer the first end of the recess than the second end of the recess.

16. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 11 , wherein the fluid module is a blower without a thermoelectric device.

17. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 11 , further including a mattress cover surrounding the mattress core, including surrounding the core top surface, the core bottom surface, and the core side surfaces.

18. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 11 , wherein the recess includes a first air flow path that extends away from the fluid module along the core bottom surface in a first direction, and wherein the recess includes a second air flow path that extends away from the fluid module along the core bottom surface in a second direction that is different than the first direction.

19. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 11 , wherein the mattress core comprises foam and at least one air chamber.

20. The environmentally conditioned mattress of claim 11 , wherein the mattress core includes a fluid distribution member arranged below the core top surface and being in fluid communication with the fluid module via the conduit.
