Pre-connected analyte sensors
Pre-connected analyte sensors are provided. A pre-connected analyte sensor includes a sensor carrier attached to an analyte sensor. The sensor carrier includes a substrate configured for mechanical coupling of the sensor to testing, calibration, or wearable equipment. The sensor carrier also includes conductive contacts for electrically coupling sensor electrodes to the testing, calibration, or wearable equipment.
1. A wearable device for measuring an analyte concentration in a host, the wearable device comprising:
a housing;
a transcutaneous analyte sensor comprising:
an in-vivo portion configured to be inserted in a living body of a host during a sensor session, wherein the in-vivo portion comprises an electrode, wherein the electrode is configured to generate a signal indicative of an analyte concentration;
an ex-vivo portion configured to remain outside the living body of the host during the sensor session;
a first printed circuit board substrate;
a second printed circuit board substrate, wherein the second printed circuit board substrate is positioned adjacent to and substantially parallel with the first printed circuit board substrate;
sensor electronics configured to process the signal generated by the electrode, wherein the sensor electronics comprises conductive components mounted to one or both of the first printed circuit board substrate and the second printed circuit board substrate; and
at least one opening in one or both of the first printed circuit board substrate and the second printed circuit board substrate, wherein the at least one opening is aligned with at least one of the conductive components mounted on the other of the first printed circuit board substrate or the second printed circuit board substrate.
2. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one opening comprises at least one through-hole.
3. The wearable device of claim 2 , comprising three through-holes.
4. The wearable device of claim 2 , wherein the at least one through-hole is aligned directly over the at least one of the conductive components.
5. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the ex-vivo portion of the transcutaneous analyte sensor is secured to the housing with adhesive.
6. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the conductive components comprise traces.
7. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the conductive components comprise a battery.
8. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the conductive components comprise a potentiostat.
9. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the conductive components comprise a telemetry module.
10. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the first printed circuit board substrate and the second printed circuit board substrate are connected by a foldable portion.
11. The wearable device of claim 10 , wherein the foldable portion has a width that is less than the first printed circuit board substrate and the second printed circuit board substrate.
12. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the sensor electronics comprises both analog components and digital components.
13. The wearable device of claim 12 , wherein the at least one opening is aligned with an analog component of the sensor electronics.
14. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the ex-vivo portion of the transcutaneous analyte sensor is electrically coupled to the first printed circuit board substrate or the second printed circuit board substrate.
15. The wearable device of claim 14 , wherein the ex-vivo portion of the transcutaneous analyte sensor is electrically coupled to the first printed circuit board substrate or the second printed circuit board substrate with clips.
16. The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the first or second printed circuit board substrate comprises interface circuitry configured to connect to traces on a test panel circuit board during manufacture.
17. A method of making a wearable device for measuring an analyte concentration in a host, the wearable device comprising a housing, a transcutaneous analyte sensor, and sensor electronics configured to process a signal generated by the transcutaneous analyte sensor, the method comprising:
mounting conductive components of the sensor electronics to one or both of a first printed circuit board substrate and a second printed circuit board substrate;
electrically coupling an ex-vivo portion of the transcutaneous analyte sensor to the first printed circuit board substrate or the second printed circuit board substrate;
positioning the first and second printed circuit board substrates adjacent to and substantially parallel with each other; and
aligning openings in the first printed circuit board substrate or the second printed circuit board substrate with conductive components of the sensor electronics mounted on the other one of the first printed circuit board substrate or the second printed circuit board substrate.
18. The method of claim 17 , comprising electrically coupling the ex-vivo portion of the transcutaneous analyte sensor to the first printed circuit board substrate or the second printed circuit board substrate with clips.
19. The method of claim 17 , comprising aligning at least one through hole with an analog component of the sensor electronics.
20. The method of claim 17 , comprising securing the ex-vivo portion of the transcutaneous analyte sensor to the housing with adhesive.
21. The method of claim 17 , wherein the conductive components comprise traces.
22. The method of claim 17 , wherein the conductive components comprise a battery.
23. The method of claim 17 , wherein the conductive components comprise a potentiostat.
24. The method of claim 17 , wherein the conductive components comprise a telemetry module.
25. The method of claim 17 , comprising singulating at least one of the first printed circuit board substrate and the second printed circuit board substrate from an array of other substrates.
