Abstract

Embodiments of the present disclosure disclose a distributed ledger technology (e.g., blockchain)-based system that provides tools and mechanisms to place users in control of their data. In embodiments, the system may include a platform device configured to initiate a connection with a lab test service provider whose systems (e.g., computer systems) may store data pertaining to the user. In embodiments, the platform device is configured to secure the data stored at the lab test service provider by facilitating deployment of that data into a distributed ledger. Once the data is secured in the distributed ledger, the platform device may be configured to provide controlled distribution or sharing of the secured data with other users or other third-party systems.

Claims (47)

1. A method for controlling sharing of user data, comprising:

generating, by one or more processors, a public key-private key pair corresponding to a user;

obtaining, by the one or more processors, information associated with the user from a user device, or a third-party device, or both;

encrypting, by the one or more processors, the information associated with the user using the public key-private key pair corresponding to the user to produce encrypted data;

storing, by the one or more processors, the encrypted data to a distributed ledger;

configuring, by the one or more processors, a set of permissions configured to control sharing of the encrypted data based on inputs provided by the user via the user device; and

sharing, by the one or more processors, first information with a third party system based on the set of permissions, wherein the set of permissions comprise at least one permission configured to initiate an action with respect to the third party system based on the first information, and wherein the first information comprises a portion of the encrypted data, or information derived from at least the portion of the encrypted data, or both.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting, by the one or more processors, the private key to the user device.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the private key is stored in a digital wallet maintained in a memory of the user device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first information is shared with the third party system via an application programming interface (API) call.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating a web-link configured to request data from the user; and

providing the link to the user device, wherein the link, once activated, initiates presentation of a graphical user interface configured to capture the information associated with the user.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising invoking a smart contract configured to facilitate the sharing of the first information with the third party system.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the smart contract is configured to restrict sharing of the first information based on the set of permissions.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the smart contract is configured to generate the information derived from at least the portion of the encrypted data.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the action initiated with respect to the third party system comprises controlling a physical device associated with the third party system, wherein the physical device is distinct from a device receiving the first information.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information associated with the user comprises personally identifiable information, wherein the personally identifiable information is stored in an off-chain storage, and wherein the off-chain storage is distinct from the distributed ledger.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations for controlling devices based on sharing of user data, comprising:

generating a public key-private key pair corresponding to a user;

obtaining information associated with the user from a user device, or a third-party device, or both;

encrypting the information associated with the user using the public key-private key pair corresponding to the user to produce encrypted data;

storing the encrypted data to a distributed ledger;

configuring a set of permissions configured to control sharing of the encrypted data based on inputs provided by the user via the user device; and

sharing first information with a third party system based on the set of permissions, wherein the set of permissions comprise at least one permission configured to initiate an action with respect to the third party system based on the first information, and wherein the first information comprises a portion of the encrypted data, or information derived from at least the portion of the encrypted data, or both.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , further comprising transmitting the private key to a user device associated with the user, wherein the private key is stored in a digital wallet maintained in a memory of the user device.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the first information is shared with the third party system via an application programming interface (API) call.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , further comprising:

generating a web-link configured to request data from the user; and

providing the link to the user device, wherein the link, once activated, initiates presentation of a graphical user interface configured to capture the information associated with the user.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , further comprising invoking a smart contract configured to facilitate the sharing of the first information with the third party system based on the set of permissions.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the action initiated with respect to the third party system comprises controlling a physical device associated with the third party system, wherein the physical device is distinct from a device receiving the first information.

17. A system comprising:

a distributed ledger;

a memory; and

one or more processors configured to:

generate a public key-private key pair corresponding to a user;

obtain information associated with the user from a user device, or a third-party device, or both;

encrypt the information associated with the user using the public key-private key pair corresponding to the user to produce encrypted data;

store the encrypted data to the distributed ledger;

configure a set of permissions configured to control sharing of the encrypted data based on inputs provided by the user via the user device; and

share first information with a third party system based on the set of permissions, wherein the set of permissions comprise at least one permission configured to initiate an action with respect to the third party system based on the first information, and wherein the first information comprises a portion of the encrypted data, or information derived from at least the portion of the encrypted data, or both.

18. The system of claim 17 , the one or more processors configured to:

generate a web-link configured to request data from the user; and

provide the link to the user device, wherein the link, once activated, initiates presentation of a graphical user interface configured to capture the information associated with the user.

19. The system of claim 17 , further comprising invoking a smart contract configured to facilitate the sharing of the first information with the third party system based on the set of permissions.

20. The system of claim 17 , wherein the action initiated with respect to the third party system comprises controlling a physical device associated with the third party system, wherein the physical device is distinct from a device receiving the first information.
