Abstract

Methods for resource allocation and provisioning in a wireless user equipment for sidelink communication with another wireless user equipment are disclosed. For example, a preemption procedure is implemented for allocating active Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest (HARQ) processes in a MAC layer of the wireless user equipment to efficient transmit or receive transport blocks. The preemption procedure may be based on preemption status parameters and preemption priority parameters associated with various transport blocks competing for the HARQ process resources.

identifying a first transport block (TB) for transmission to a second wireless user equipment via a sidelink;

transmitting or retransmitting the first TB, to the second wireless user equipment according to the preemptable active HARQ process via the sidelink.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first TB comprises a new TB generated by the first wireless user equipment that has not been previously associated with any active HARQ process.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first TB was previously associated with an active HARQ process before losing the previous association due to a prior preemption procedure.

4. A method of claim 1 , wherein determining the preemptable active HARQ process using the HARQ process preemption procedure comprises:

determining availability of a free HARQ process among the plurality of active HARQ processes; and

identifying the preemption status parameter associated with the first TB;

determining whether to enter the HARQ process preemption procedure for the first TB based on the preemption status parameter; and

preforming the HARQ process preemption procedure for the first TB within the plurality of active HARQ processes associated with a corresponding plurality of other TBs to identify the preemptable active HARQ process based on preemption status parameters of the plurality of other TBs and preemption priority parameters corresponding to the first TB and the plurality of other TBs.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the preemption status parameters associated with the first TB and the plurality of other TBs, comprises one of:

no preemption for indicating that a corresponding TB is not to be included in the HARQ process preemption procedure;

preemption according to preemption priority parameter for indicating that a corresponding TB is to be included in the HARQ process preemption procedure based on the associated preemption priority parameter;

abandoned for indicating that the corresponding TB is to lose its association with any HARQ process; or

granted for indicating that the corresponding TB is to always be associated with an active HARQ process.

6. The method of claim 4 , wherein:

each of the first TB and the plurality of other TBs is associated with a preemption timer initialized with an expiration time value upon association with an active HARQ process; and

at least one of the preemption status parameters associated with the first TB and the plurality of other TBs changes upon expiration of the corresponding preemption timer.

7. The method of claim 4 , wherein the preemption priority parameter associated with a TB is determine based on at least one of:

a channel busy ratio (CBR) of a transmitting resource pool used by a transmitting UE associated with the TB;

a packet delay budget (PDB) associated with the TB;

a priority information included in a sidelink control information (SCI) associated with the TB;

a maximum retransmission number associated with the TB;

a ratio of the number of TBs that have already been transmitted by the first wireless user equipment compared to the maximum retransmission number allowed;

a time duration that the TB has been associated with an active HARQ process;

a number of code block groups (CBGs) that have been transmitted successfully for the TB;

a ratio of CBGs that have been transmitted successfully to a total number CBGs in the TB; or

a resource reservation status indicated in the SCI which indicates the next or several next retransmission associated with the TB.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the expiration time value associated with the TB is derived based on a mapping rule or mapping table between the CBR, the PDB, or the priority information, and expiration time values.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the mapping rule or mapping table is configured by a wireless network or is pre-configured in the first wireless user equipment.

10. The method of claim 7 , wherein:
