Abstract

Computing systems, database systems, and related conversational updating methods are provided for dynamically updating graphical user interfaces responsive to conversational user inputs received via a chatbot or other conversational interactions with a user. One method involves receiving a conversational user input from a conversation session graphical user interface display presented at a client device, identifying a desire to perform an action with respect to a database component based on the conversational user input, creating a database entry corresponding to the conversational user input, obtaining data corresponding to the conversational user input from a database communicatively coupled to the server, and providing an update to a second graphical user interface display at the client device in response to the conversational user input, wherein the update is influenced by the data corresponding to the conversational user input obtained from the database and reflects the desired action with respect to the database component.

Claims (51)

1. A method of updating a background graphical user interface (GUI) display at a client device coupled to a network responsive to user interactions with a chatbot, the method comprising:

analyzing a conversational user input associated with a chat window at the client device using natural language processing to determine an intent of a user of the client device to perform an action, wherein the chat window is associated with the chatbot and a representation of the conversational user input is displayed via the chat window at the client device, wherein the chat window is distinct from the background GUI display; and

in response to determining the intent to perform the action:

obtaining data to perform the action associated with the intent using the conversational user input; and

updating the background GUI display at the client device in response to obtaining the data to reflect the conversational user input associated with the chat window while the chat window associated with the chatbot is concurrently displayed at the client device, wherein:

the chat window comprises a graphical representation of a conversation including the representation of the conversational user input; and

an updated background GUI display and the chat window comprising the graphical representation of the conversation including the representation of the conversational user input are displayed concurrently after updating the background GUI display.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the chat window comprises an overlying GUI display associated with the conversation with the chatbot.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising initiating the conversation in response to the user selecting a GUI element for a digital assistant.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the chat window comprises a separate or standalone GUI display.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein updating the background GUI display comprises synchronizing the background GUI display with the conversation with the chatbot.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein updating the background GUI display comprises updating an existing GUI element previously presented on the client device responsive to the conversational user input.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the chatbot comprises a component of a virtual application or web page.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the chat window comprises a list or menu of selectable GUI elements; and

the conversational user input comprises the user selecting a GUI element from within the list or menu of selectable GUI elements.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the background GUI display comprises a web page from which the chatbot was initiated;

the web page is associated with an application platform of a database system; and

the data is obtained from the database system.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein updating the background GUI display comprises:

generating information for rendering an updated GUI component; and

providing the information for rendering the updated GUI component to an application at the client device over the network.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining the data comprises a server obtaining the data corresponding to the conversational user input from a database communicatively coupled to the server in response to the server identifying the intent to perform the action associated with a database component.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising maintaining, at a database system, an association between a session key associated with the chat window and the action identified based on the conversational user input.

13. A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium that providing instructions that, when executed by a processor, are configurable to cause said processor to perform operations comprising:

analyzing a conversational user input associated with a chat window at a client device using natural language processing to determine an intent of a user of the client device to perform an action, wherein the chat window is associated with a chatbot and a representation of the conversational user input is displayed via the chat window at the client device, wherein the chat window is distinct from a background graphical user interface (GUI) display; and

in response to determining the intent to perform the action:

obtaining data to perform the action associated with the intent using the conversational user input; and

updating the background graphical user interface (GUI) display at the client device in response to obtaining the data to reflect the conversational user input associated with the chat window while the chat window associated with the chatbot is concurrently displayed at the client device, wherein:

the chat window comprises a graphical representation of a conversation including the representation of the conversational user input; and

an updated background GUI display and the chat window comprising the graphical representation of the conversation including the representation of the conversational user input are displayed concurrently after updating the background GUI display.

14. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the chat window comprises a second GUI display associated with the conversation with the chatbot.

15. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the chat window comprises a separate or standalone GUI display distinct from the background GUI display.

16. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the background GUI display comprises a web page from which the chatbot was initiated;

the web page is associated with an application platform of a database system; and

the data is obtained from a database of the database system.

17. The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the chat window comprises a list or menu of selectable GUI elements; and

the conversational user input comprises the user selecting a GUI element from within the list or menu of selectable GUI elements.

18. A system comprising:

a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium that stores software; and

a processor, coupled to the non-transitory machine-readable storage medium, to execute the software that implements a conversational interaction service and that is configurable to:

analyze a conversational user input associated with a chat window at a client device using natural language processing to determine an intent of a user of the client device to perform an action, wherein the chat window is associated with a chatbot and a representation of the conversational user input is displayed via the chat window at the client device, wherein the chat window is distinct from a background graphical user interface (GUI) display; and

in response to determining the intent to perform the action:

obtain data to perform the action associated with the intent using the conversational user input; and

update the background graphical user interface (GUI) display at the client device in response to obtaining the data to reflect the conversational user input associated with the chat window while the chat window is concurrently displayed at the client device, wherein:

the chat window comprises a graphical representation of a conversation including the representation of the conversational user input; and

an updated background GUI display and the chat window comprising the graphical representation of the conversation including the representation of the conversational user input are displayed concurrently after updating the background GUI display.
