Abstract

Some embodiments relate to herbicide compositions and methods of inducing phyotoxicity in a plant, by administering an aqueous composition to foliar portions of the plant. This aqueous composition includes at least one nutrient, and at least one adjuvant, and has a pH of about 4 to about 7. In some embodiments, the aqueous composition comprises an organic or mineral acid. In some embodiments, the phytotoxicity is topical. In some embodiments, the phytoxicity is systemic. Without being limited by theory, the nutrient is absorbed by the plant in excess, thereby killing the plant.

Claims (28)

1 . An aqueous herbicide composition comprising;

a micronutrient at a concentration of about 0.5 M to about 2 M in the aqueous herbicide composition;

an organic or mineral acid; and

an adjuvant comprising a surfactant, a humectant, or both,

wherein the composition has a pH of about 4 to about 7.

2 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the micronutrient is present in an amount effective to be absorbed systemically by a plant and cause systemic terminal physiological disruption in the plant.

3 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the micronutrient is selected from Zn, Cl, Fe, B, Mn, Cu, and Mo, or a combination thereof.

4 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the micronutrient does not comprise iron.

5 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 that does not comprise iron.

6 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the pH of the composition is about 4.5 to about 5.5.

7 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the concentration of the micronutrient in the aqueous composition is about 1 M to about 2 M.

8 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the aqueous herbicide composition comprises an organic acid selected from the group consisting of acetic acid, citric acid, lactic acid, formic acid, succinic acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, and oxalic acid.

9 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the aqueous composition comprises the mineral acid.

10 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 9 , wherein the mineral acid is HCl.

11 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , further comprising an oppositely-charged ion from the micronutrient, wherein the oppositely-charged ion is not an herbicide in the quantities of the composition.

12 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition has a low point of deliquescence (POD).

13 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 which does not contain glyphosate.

14 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the adjuvant comprises a surfactant.

15 . The aqueous herbicide composition of claim 1 , wherein the adjuvant comprises a humectant.

16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the humectant comprises a sugar selected from dextrose, fructose, sucrose, or a combination thereof.

17 . A kit comprising:

a first unit quantity of a micronutrient;

a second unit quantity of organic or mineral acid; and

an adjuvant comprising a surfactant, a humectant, or both,

wherein a ratio of the first unit quantity to the second unit quantity is configured to achieve a pH of 4 to 7 if the first unit quantity is constituted to a micronutrient molarity of 0.5-2.0 in water having a pH of 7.

18 . The kit of claim 17 , wherein the micronutrient is selected from Cl, Fe, B, Mn, Cu, Zn, and Mo, or a combination thereof.

19 . The kit of claim 17 , wherein the kit further comprises a solubilizing agent.

20 . The kit of claim 17 , further comprising a burn-down product.
