Abstract

The present technology includes devices, systems, and method for managing a patient's urine output. In some embodiments, an exemplary method includes receiving an estimated amount of excess fluid for the patient; obtaining a urine output rate of the patient; obtaining a diuretic dosage rate of the patient; obtaining (i) a first input corresponding to a percentage of an actual amount of net fluid loss relative to the estimated amount of excess fluid, and/or (ii) a second input corresponding to an estimated amount of fluid remaining; and based on the first input and/or the second input, providing an output associated with adjusting the fluid therapy. Providing the output can include providing an indication with instructions for increasing the patient's urine output by administering an additional diuretic and/or increasing infusion of hydration fluid to the patient.

Claims (28)

1 . A fluid therapy system, comprising:

a urine measurement device configured to repeatedly measure urine output from a patient at predetermined intervals;

one or more pumps configured to provide a diuretic to the patient at a diuretic dosage rate, to provide a hydration fluid to the patient at a hydration fluid rate, and/or to provide a different diuretic to the patient;

one or more processors; and

tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media having instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the fluid therapy system to perform operations comprising—

receiving an estimated amount of excess fluid for the patient;

obtaining a urine output rate of the patient;

obtaining a diuretic dosage rate of the patient;

determining that (i) the urine output rate over a first time period of at least one hour is below a predetermined urine output threshold and (ii) the diuretic dosage rate over a second time period of at least one hour is equal to or above a predetermined diuretic threshold of at least 5 milligrams/hour;

obtaining (i) a first input corresponding to a percentage of an actual amount of net fluid loss relative to the estimated amount of excess fluid, and/or (ii) a second input corresponding to an estimated amount of excess fluid remaining; and

based on (i) the urine output rate being below the predetermined urine output threshold for the first time period, (ii) the diuretic dosage rate being equal to or above a predetermined diuretic threshold for the second time period, and (iii) the first input and/or the second input, providing an output associated with adjusting fluid therapy provided to the patient, wherein providing the output comprises (i) adjusting the diuretic dosage rate of the the diuretic via the one or more pumps, (ii) infusing a hydration fluid to the patient via the one or more pumps, and/or (iii) administering the different diuretic to the patient via the one or more pumps.

2 . The fluid therapy system of claim 1 , wherein providing the output comprises providing instructions to (i) adjust the diuretic dosage rate of the diuretic, (ii) adjust the amount of hydration fluid provided to the patient, (iii) administer the different diuretic to the patient.

3 . The fluid therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the diuretic is a first diuretic administered to the patient via a first one of the one or more pumps, and wherein providing the output comprises providing instructions to infuse the different diuretic to the patient via a second one of the one or more pumps.

4 . The fluid therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more pumps comprise a hydration fluid pump configured to infuse the hydration fluid to the patient at a first rate, and wherein providing the output comprises infusing the hydration fluid to the patient via the hydration fluid pump at a second rate higher than the first rate.

5 . The fluid therapy system of claim 1 , wherein, when the first input is above a predetermined percentage threshold or the second input is below a predetermined fluid threshold, providing the output comprises providing instructions to decrease the diuretic dosage rate and/or a hydration fluid infusion rate.

6 . The fluid therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined urine output threshold is at least 325 milliliters/hour.

7 . The fluid therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined diuretic threshold is at least 30 milligrams/hour.

8 . A fluid therapy system, comprising:

tangible, non-transitory computer-readable media having instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the fluid therapy system to perform operations comprising—

receiving an estimated amount of excess fluid for the patient;

obtaining a urine output rate of the patient;

obtaining a diuretic dosage rate of the patient;

determining that (i) the urine output rate over a first time period of at least one hour is below a predetermined urine output threshold and (ii) the diuretic dosage rate over a second time period of at least one hour is equal to or above a predetermined diuretic threshold of at least 5 milligrams/hour;

obtaining (i) a first input corresponding to a percentage of an actual amount of net fluid loss relative to the estimated amount of excess fluid, and/or (ii) a second input corresponding to an estimated amount of excess fluid remaining; and

based on the urine output rate being below the predetermined urine output threshold for the first time period, and the diuretic dosage rate being equal to or above a predetermined diuretic threshold for the second time period input, and the first input and/or the second input, providing an output associated with adjusting fluid therapy provided to the patient, wherein providing the output comprises (i) adjusting the diuretic dosage rate of the the diuretic via one or more pumps, (ii) infusing a hydration fluid to the patient via one or more pumps, and/or (iii) administering a different diuretic to the patient via one or more pumps.

9 . The fluid therapy system of claim 8 , wherein the predetermined urine output threshold is at least 325 milliliters/hour.

10 . The fluid therapy system of claim 8 , wherein the predetermined diuretic threshold is at least 30 milligrams/hour.

11 . The fluid therapy system of claim 8 , wherein providing the output comprises providing instructions to (i) adjust the diuretic dosage rate of the diuretic, (ii) adjust the amount of hydration fluid provided to the patient, (iii) administer the different diuretic to the patient.
