Abstract

A patient interface includes a hollow base with an air inlet configured to be connected to an air delivery tube and receive the pressurized flow of respiratory gas. The hollow base further includes a pair of nozzles extending from the hollow base. Each nozzle is configured to receive the pressurized flow of respiratory gas from a respective one of the pair of air outlets. A continuous flexible adhesive strip of material configured to adhere to a side of the patient's nose and support the hollow base and the pair of nozzles on the patient's face to form a sealed airpath from the hollow base to the patient's nasal airways. The hollow base comprises a first portion from which the pair of nozzles extend and a second portion that is attachable to the air delivery tube. The second portion is more rigid than the first portion.

Claims (49)

1. A patient interface configured to supply a pressurized flow of respiratory gas to a patient's airways, the patient interface comprising:

a hollow base with an air inlet configured to be connected to an air delivery tube and receive the pressurized flow of respiratory gas, the hollow base further comprising a pair of air outlets configured to discharge the pressurized flow of respiratory gas, the air inlet being positioned inferior to the pair of air outlets when the hollow base is mounted on the patient's face;

a pair of nozzles extending from the hollow base, each nozzle being configured to receive the pressurized flow of respiratory gas from a respective one of the pair of air outlets; and

a continuous flexible adhesive strip of material configured to adhere to a side of the patient's nose and support the hollow base and the pair of nozzles on the patient's face to form a sealed airpath from the hollow base to the patient's nasal airways,

wherein the hollow base comprises a first portion from which the pair of nozzles extend and a second portion that is attachable to the air delivery tube, the second portion being more rigid than the first portion.

2. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the continuous flexible adhesive strip of material is made from a textile material, and/or a foam.

3. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein a receiving direction in which the hollow base is configured to receive the flow of pressurized respiratory gas is the same as a discharge direction in which the hollow base is configured to discharge the flow of pressurized respiratory gas.

4. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the hollow base comprises a gas washout vent.

5. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the continuous flexible adhesive strip of material is removable from the hollow base and the pair of nozzles.

6. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein an aperture is formed in the continuous flexible adhesive strip of material.

7. The patient interface of claim 6 , wherein the continuous flexible adhesive strip is configured so that the pressurized flow of respiratory gas passes through the aperture, and wherein the aperture is oriented to face the underside of the patient's nose in use.

8. The patient interface system of claim 7 , wherein the aperture in the continuous flexible adhesive strip that is oriented to face the underside of the patient's nose in use is the only aperture in the continuous flexible adhesive strip.

9. The patient interface of claim 1 , wherein the continuous flexible adhesive strip of material is made from a textile material, and/or a foam,

wherein a receiving direction in which the hollow base is configured to receive the flow of pressurized respiratory gas is the same as a discharge direction in which the hollow base is configured to discharge the flow of pressurized respiratory gas,

wherein the hollow base comprises a gas washout vent, and

wherein the continuous flexible adhesive strip of material is removable from the hollow base and the pair of nozzles, and

wherein an aperture is formed in the continuous flexible adhesive strip of material.

10. The patient interface system of claim 1 , wherein the pair of nozzles are configured to sealingly engage the patient's nares.

11. A patient interface system configured to supply a pressurized flow of respiratory gas to a patient's airways, the patient interface system comprising:

the patient interface of claim 1 ; and

an air delivery tube removably connected to the air inlet of the hollow base.

12. The patient interface system of claim 11 , wherein the continuous flexible adhesive strip of material is separated from the air delivery tube.

13. A patient interface configured to supply a pressurized flow of respiratory gas to a patient's airways, the patient interface comprising:

a hollow base with an air inlet configured to be connected to an air delivery tube and receive the pressurized flow of respiratory gas, the hollow base further comprising a pair of air outlets configured to discharge the pressurized flow of respiratory gas, the air inlet being positioned inferior to the pair of air outlets when the hollow base is mounted on the patient's face;

a pair of nozzles extending from the hollow base, each nozzle being configured to receive the pressurized flow of respiratory gas from a respective one of the pair of air outlets; and

a continuous adhesive configured to support the hollow base and the pair of nozzles on the patient's nose to form a sealed airpath from the hollow base to the patient's nasal airways, the continuous adhesive being configured to adhere to a side of the patient's nose,

wherein the hollow base comprises a first portion from which the pair of nozzles extend and a second portion that is attachable to the air delivery tube, the second portion being more rigid than the first portion.

14. The patient interface of claim 13 , wherein each nozzle is flexible.

15. The patient interface of claim 13 , wherein the continuous adhesive does not form a sealing engagement with the patient's nostrils.

16. The patient interface of claim 13 , wherein the hollow base and the pair of nozzles are configured to be supported on the patient's head solely by the adhesive.

17. The patient interface of claim 13 , wherein the continuous adhesive is located on a flexible strip of material.

18. The patient interface of claim 17 , wherein the flexible strip of material is made from a textile material, and/or a foam.

19. The patient interface of claim 13 , wherein a receiving direction in which the hollow base is configured to receive the flow of pressurized respiratory gas is the same as a discharge direction in which the hollow base is configured to discharge the flow of pressurized respiratory gas.

20. The patient interface of claim 13 , wherein each nozzle is flexible,

wherein the continuous adhesive does not form a sealing engagement with the patient's nostrils,

wherein the hollow base and the nozzles are configured to be supported on the patient's head solely by the adhesive,

wherein the continuous adhesive is located on a flexible strip of material,

wherein the flexible strip of material is made from a textile material, and/or a foam, and

wherein a receiving direction in which the hollow base is configured to receive the flow of pressurized respiratory gas is the same as a discharge direction in which the hollow base is configured to discharge the flow of pressurized respiratory gas.

21. The patient interface of claim 13 , wherein:

an aperture is formed in the continuous adhesive,

the continuous adhesive is configured so that the pressurized flow of respiratory gas passes through the aperture, and

wherein the aperture is oriented to face the underside of the patient's nose in use.

22. The patient interface system of claim 21 , wherein the aperture in the continuous adhesive that is oriented to face the underside of the patient's nose in use is the only aperture in the continuous adhesive.

23. The patient interface system of claim 13 , wherein the pair of nozzles are configured to sealingly engage the patient's nares.

24. A patient interface system configured to supply a pressurized flow of respiratory gas to a patient's airways, the patient interface system comprising:

the patient interface of claim 13 ; and

an air delivery tube removably connected to the air inlet of the hollow base.

25. The patient interface system of claim 24 , wherein the continuous adhesive is separated from the air delivery tube.
