Abstract

Described are computer-based methods and apparatuses, including computer program products, comprising the steps of, or structure for, storing a plurality of expert profiles in a database, each of the plurality of expert profiles comprising information associated with a person having knowledge in a particular category, subject or topic; receiving search criteria over a network from a query source; selecting at least one of the plurality of expert profiles comprising information that satisfy the search criteria; and transmitting expert profile data for each of the selected expert profiles to the remote search engine, the expert profile data comprising data that defines a displayable representation of a corresponding expert profile, the expert profile data further comprising data that facilitates a client-initiated, real-time communication session over the network with a person associated with the corresponding expert profile.

Claims (40)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, at an expert agent search server, user post data for a discussion web page, wherein when the user post data is received from a social networking server, the user post data is received based on code executed by one or more processors of the social networking server identifying a query within the user post data;

accessing expert agent profile data associated with the query;

generating a web banner that includes a hard-coded search query configured to generate a list of the expert agent profile data;

embedding the web banner within the discussion web page of the social networking server;

receiving, at the expert agent search server, a notification that the web banner has been selected; and

transmitting the expert agent profile data.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the expert agent profile data includes instructions for initiating real-time contact with a plurality of agents associated with an online status in the expert agent profile data.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the notification is a request for local caching of the expert agent profile data at the social networking server, wherein the expert agent profile data includes real-time availability data for storage in a local cache of the social networking server, and wherein updated expert agent profile data is automatically transmitted when the real-time availability data changes.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the expert agent profile data includes a see more experts link configured to initiate a supplemental search request to the expert agent search server for another set of expert profiles different than expert profiles in the expert agent profile data.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the expert agent profile data is generated using randomization of an order of expert profiles in the expert agent profile data to counteract position bias.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the hard-coded search query comprises a requested format of expert profiles, a maximum number of expert profiles, and a relevancy threshold that represents a minimum correlation between the query and the expert agent profile data associated with the query.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the expert agent profile data includes one or more of a profile identifier for each expert profile in the expert agent profile data, a current availability status of each expert associated with the expert agent profile data, a position of each expert profile in the expert agent profile data, and a category identifier.

8. An expert agent search server comprising:

a memory; and

one or more processors coupled to the memory, the one or more processors configured to perform operations including:

receiving, at the expert agent search server, user post data for a discussion web page, wherein when the user post data is received from a social networking server, the user post data is received based on code executed by one or more processors of the social networking server identifying a query within the user post data;

accessing expert agent profile data associated with the query;

generating a web banner that includes a hard-coded search query configured to generate a list of the expert agent profile data;

embedding the web banner within the discussion web page of the social networking server;

receiving, at the expert agent search server, a notification that the web banner has been selected; and

transmitting the expert agent profile data.

9. The expert agent search server of claim 8 , wherein the expert agent profile data includes instructions for initiating real-time contact with a plurality of agents associated with an online status in the expert agent profile data.

10. The expert agent search server of claim 8 , wherein the notification is a request for local caching of the expert agent profile data at the social networking server, wherein the expert agent profile data includes real-time availability data for storage in a local cache of the social networking server, and wherein updated expert agent profile data is automatically transmitted when the real-time availability data changes.

11. The expert agent search server of claim 8 , wherein the expert agent profile data includes a see more experts link configured to initiate a supplemental search request to the expert agent search server for another set of expert profiles different than expert profiles in the expert agent profile data.

12. The expert agent search server of claim 8 , wherein the expert agent profile data is generated using randomization of an order of expert profiles in the expert agent profile data to counteract position bias.

13. The expert agent search server of claim 8 , wherein the hard-coded search query comprises a requested format of expert profiles, a maximum number of expert profiles, and a relevancy threshold that represents a minimum correlation between the query and the expert agent profile data associated with the query.

14. The expert agent search server of claim 8 , wherein the expert agent profile data includes one or more of a profile identifier for each expert profile in the expert agent profile data, a current availability status of each expert associated with the expert agent profile data, a position of each expert profile in the expert agent profile data, and a category identifier.

15. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of an expert agent search server, initiate operations comprising:

receiving, at the expert agent search server, user post data for a discussion web page, wherein when the user post data is received from a social networking server, the user post data is received based on code executed by one or more processors of the social networking server identifying a query within the user post data;

accessing expert agent profile data associated with the query;

generating a web banner that includes a hard-coded search query configured to generate a list of the expert agent profile data;

embedding the web banner within the discussion web page of the social networking server;

receiving, at the expert agent search server, a notification that the web banner has been selected; and

transmitting the expert agent profile data.

16. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the expert agent profile data includes instructions for initiating real-time contact with a plurality of agents associated with an online status in the expert agent profile data.

17. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the notification is a request for local caching of the expert agent profile data at the social networking server, wherein the expert agent profile data includes real-time availability data for storage in a local cache of the social networking server, and wherein updated expert agent profile data is automatically transmitted when the real-time availability data changes.

18. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the expert agent profile data includes a see more experts link configured to initiate a supplemental search request to the expert agent search server for another set of expert profiles different than expert profiles in the expert agent profile data.

19. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the expert agent profile data is generated using randomization of an order of expert profiles in the expert agent profile data to counteract position bias.

20. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the hard-coded search query comprises a requested format of expert profiles, a maximum number of expert profiles, and a relevancy threshold that represents a minimum correlation between the query and the expert agent profile data associated with the query.
