Abstract

UE location determined by collecting and preprocessing signal data at a detector and sending extracted data to a remote locate server. The detector buffers samples from signals provided by receive channels, detects known reference signals from receive channels based on reference signal parameters, isolates symbols carrying the reference signal from frames, extracts data from symbols, and sends extracted data to locate server. The locate server receives the extracted data, estimates locate observables based on the extracted data and calculates the UE location based on the estimated locate observables, the reference signal parameters and the extracted data. The detector and/or the server may also generate correlation coefficients between reference signals carrying spectrum received from a serving cell and utilize the correlation coefficients to cancel a serving cell signal in symbols that include known in advance reference signals from the serving cell and one or more neighboring cells of the wireless system.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more known in advance reference signals comprise a Cell-Specific Reference Signal (CRS) or a Positioning Reference Signal (PRS).

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the known in advance reference signals comprise modulation information for at least a portion of a spectrum associated with the one or more symbols.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the obtaining, the isolating, and the extracting are performed by a detector residing in the wireless UE or in a network node.

9. An apparatus comprising:

one or more memory; and

one or more processors communicatively coupled to the one or more memory, and configured to:

obtain one or more known in advance reference signals;

isolate, from other signals in a frame, one or more symbols carrying corresponding ones of the one or more known in advance reference signals;

extract one or more resource elements or one or more I/Q samples from the isolated one or more symbols; and

send the extracted one or more resource elements or one or more I/Q samples to a network entity for determination of a location of a wireless user equipment (UE) based at least on the extracted one or more resource elements or one or more I/Q samples, and the one or more known in advance reference signals.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the extraction of the one or more resource elements comprises extraction of the one or more resource elements from the isolated one or more symbols on a per-symbol basis.

11. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to generate a data structure prior to the sending of the extracted one or more resource elements or one or more I/Q samples, the data structure comprising the extracted one or more resource elements or one or more I/Q samples.

12. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the extracted one or more resource elements are associated with the one or more known in advance reference signals, payload, or a combination thereof.

13. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein:

the obtaining of the one or more known in advance reference signals comprises receiving one or more reference signal parameters that describe the one or more known in advance reference signals within one or more signals provided by one or more receive channels; and

the determination of the location of the wireless UE is further based on the one or more reference signal parameters.

14. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the one or more known in advance reference signals comprise a Cell-Specific Reference Signal (CRS) or a Positioning Reference Signal (PRS).

15. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the known in advance reference signals comprise modulation information for at least a portion of a spectrum associated with the one or more symbols.

16. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the apparatus comprises a detector residing in the wireless UE or in a network node.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable memory having instructions stored thereon, the instructions configured to, when executed by one or more processors, cause an apparatus to:

obtain one or more known in advance reference signals;

isolate, from other signals in a frame, one or more symbols carrying corresponding ones of the one or more known in advance reference signals;

extract one or more resource elements or one or more I/Q samples from the isolated one or more symbols; and
