Abstract

Filter media comprising non-woven fiber webs having one or more advantageous physical properties are generally described. In some embodiments, a filter media and/or non-woven fiber web described herein comprises a combination of fibers that results in enhanced physical properties. For example, the non-woven fiber web may comprise a combination of fiber types that is advantageous, such as a combination comprising fibrillated fibers, glass fibers, and/or binder fibers. In some cases, the filter media and/or non-woven fiber web comprising the combination of fibers may be formed into undulations (e.g., by a creping and/or microcreping process) to further enhance the physical properties of the filter media and/or non-woven fiber.

Claims (41)

1 . A filter media, comprising:

a non-woven fiber web comprising fibrillated fibers, glass fibers, and binder fibers, wherein:

the fibrillated fibers have an average Canadian Standard Freeness value of greater than or equal to 0.5 mL,

the glass fibers are present in an amount of greater than 20 wt % of the non-woven fiber web,

the binder fibers are present in an amount of greater than or equal to 11 wt % of the non-woven fiber web, and

the non-woven fiber web as a dust holding capacity of greater than or equal to 80 mg/cm 3 as measured according to ISO 4020 (2001).

2 . A filter media, comprising:

a non-woven fiber web comprising fibrillated fibers and glass fibers, wherein:

the fibrillated fibers are present in an amount of less than 80 wt % of the non-woven fiber web,

the glass fibers are present in an amount of greater than 0.1 wt % and less than 95 wt % of the non-woven fiber web, and

the non-woven fiber web has a developed interfacial area ratio greater than or equal to 0.1.

3 . A filter media, comprising:

a non-woven fiber web comprising fibrillated fibers and glass fibers, wherein:

the fibrillated fibers are present in an amount of less than 80 wt % of the non-woven fiber web,

the glass fibers are present in an amount of greater than 0.1 wt % and less than 95 wt % of the non-woven fiber web, and

the non-woven fiber web is fluid-enhanced and/or mechanically enhanced.

4 - 13 . (canceled)

14 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web is fluid-enhanced on a single side.

15 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web is fluid-enhanced on opposing sides.

16 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web is fluid-enhanced, and wherein the fluid enhancement is hydroentanglement.

17 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated fibers have an average Canadian Standard Freeness value of greater than or equal to 0 mL and less than or equal to 800 mL.

18 . (canceled)

19 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the fibrillated fibers are present in an amount of less than 70 wt % of the non-woven fiber web.

20 . (canceled)

21 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the binder fibers comprise bicomponent fibers.

22 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the binder fibers are present in an amount of less than or equal to 80 wt % of the non-woven fiber web.

23 - 24 . (canceled)

25 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web comprises synthetic fibers.

26 . A filter media as in claim 25 , wherein the synthetic fibers have an average fiber diameter of greater than or equal to 0.01 microns and less than or equal to 100 microns.

27 . (canceled)

28 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web comprises a resin.

29 . A filter media as in claim 28 , wherein the resin is present in an amount of greater than or equal to 0 wt % and less than or equal to 40 wt % of the non-woven fiber web.

30 - 31 . (canceled)

32 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the filter media comprises a single non-woven fiber web.

33 . A filter media as in claim 1 , further comprising one or more additional layers, wherein the one or more additional layers comprise synthetic fibers, natural fibers, glass fibers, solvent spun fibers, melt-electrospun fibers, spunbond fibers, and/or meltblown fibers.

34 - 49 . (canceled)

50 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the glass fibers comprise microglass fibers.

51 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web is charged.

52 . A filter media as in claim 1 , wherein the non-woven fiber web is uncharged.

53 . A filter media as in claim 33 , wherein the one or more additional layers and the non-woven fiber web are arranged such that there is a gradient structure with respect to one or more properties.

54 - 66 . (canceled)
