Abstract

The purpose of the present invention is to obviate patterning defects of electrodes in through-holes formed in an organic passivation film for connection between TFTs and pixel electrodes in an ultra-high definition display device. To achieve the foregoing, the present invention has a configuration such as the following. This display device, in which a TFT (thin-film transistor) is formed on a substrate, an organic passivation film is formed covering the TFT, and a first pixel electrode, a first common electrode, a second pixel electrode, and a second common electrode are formed on the organic passivation film, is characterized in that the first pixel electrode is connected to the TFT via a through-hole formed in the organic passivation film, the through-hole is filled with a filler, and an end of the second pixel electrode is present on the upper side of the filler.

Claims (43)

1. A display device comprising a substrate on which a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) is formed,

an organic passivation film formed on the TFT, and

a first pixel electrode, a first common electrode, a second pixel electrode and a second common electrode formed on the organic passivation film,

wherein the first pixel electrode is connected with the TFT via a through hole formed in the organic passivation film,

the through hole is filled with a filler, and

an edge of the second pixel electrode is at an upper portion of the filler.

2. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

a first insulating film is formed between the first pixel electrode and the first common electrode to form a first capacitance,

a second insulating film is formed between the first common electrode and the second pixel electrode to form a second capacitance,

a third insulating film is formed between the second pixel electrode and the second common electrode to form a third capacitance, and

the first capacitance, the second capacitance and the third capacitance are connected to each other in parallel.

3. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

a distance between an upper surface of the filler and the substrate is smaller than a distance between an upper part of the organic passivation film and the substrate.

4. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

a taper angle of the through hole is 70 degrees or more and 90 degrees or less.

5. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

a taper angle of the through hole is 80 degrees or more and 90 degrees or less.

6. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the first pixel electrode, the first common electrode, the second pixel electrode and the second common electrode are formed of ITO.

7. The display device according to claim 6 , wherein

the first common electrode is a laminated structure of an ITO film and a metal film.

8. A liquid crystal display device comprising:

a first substrate on which a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) is formed,

an organic passivation film formed on the TFT,

a first pixel electrode, a first common electrode, a second pixel electrode and a second common electrode formed on the organic passivation film,

a second substrate opposing to the first substrate, and

a liquid crystal sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate,

wherein the first pixel electrode is connected with the TFT via a through hole formed in the organic passivation film,

the through hole is filled with a filler, and

an edge of the second pixel electrode is at an upper portion of the filler.

9. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 8 , wherein

the liquid crystal is driven by a field between the second pixel electrode and the second counter electrode.

10. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 8 , wherein

a color filter is formed between the first substrate and the organic passivation film, and

the through hole is formed penetrating the color filter.

11. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 8 , wherein

a plurality of the through holes are aligned in a first direction,

a columnar spacer is formed between the adjacent through holes, and

a center of the columnar spacer in the first direction coincides with a middle between the adjacent through holes.

12. The liquid crystal display device according to claim 8 , wherein

a plurality of the through holes are aligned in a first direction,

a columnar spacer is formed between the adjacent through holes, and

a part of the columnar spacer is on the filler.
