Abstract

The subject disclosure relates to solutions for testing lighting systems and in particular, for verifying lighting system operability in the event of a power failure. A process of the disclosed technology can include steps for receiving an interrupt command, toggling an interrupt relay in response to the interrupt command, and measuring one or more lighting characteristics of the lighting array to determine if the second power supply can power the lighting array. Systems and machine-readable media are also provided.

Claims (48)

1. A system, comprising:

an interrupt relay coupled between a first power supply and a lighting array;

a power monitoring module coupled to the lighting array;

a microcontroller coupled to the power monitoring module, the interrupt relay, and a wireless transceiver, wherein the microcontroller is configured to perform operations for:

receiving an interrupt command, wherein the interrupt command is locally generated based on a predetermined testing schedule;

toggling the interrupt relay in response to the interrupt command, wherein toggling the interrupt relay terminates power delivery from the first power supply to the lighting array; and

measuring one or more lighting characteristics of the lighting array to determine if a second power supply can power the lighting array.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the microcontroller is further configured to perform operations comprising:

transmitting data based on the one or more lighting characteristics to a management system via the wireless transceiver; and

toggling the interrupt relay in response to a resume command to cause power delivery from the first power supply to the lighting array to be restarted.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the management system is configured to determine a functional status for one or more lighting elements in the lighting array.

4. The system of claim 2 , wherein the management system is configured to compute an estimated number of charge/discharge cycles remaining for the second power supply or compute an estimated date that the second power supply will need to be replaced.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein measuring the one or more lighting characteristics further comprises:

measuring one or more voltage or current characteristics of the lighting array.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein measuring the one or more lighting characteristics further comprises:

measuring one or more voltage or current characteristics of the second power supply.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second power supply comprises one or more battery storage cells.

8. A method comprising:

receiving an interrupt command, wherein the interrupt command is locally generated based on a predetermined testing schedule;

toggling an interrupt relay in response to the interrupt command, wherein toggling the interrupt relay terminates power delivery from a first power supply to a lighting array; and

measuring one or more lighting characteristics of the lighting array to determine if a second power supply can power the lighting array.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

transmitting data based on the one or more lighting characteristics to a management system; and

toggling the interrupt relay in response to a resume command to cause power delivery from the first power supply to the lighting array to be restarted.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

determining a functional status for one or more lighting elements in the lighting array.

11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

computing an estimated number of charge/discharge cycles remaining for the second power supply or compute an estimated date that the second power supply will need to be replaced.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein measuring the one or more lighting characteristics further comprises:

measuring one or more voltage or current characteristics of the lighting array.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein measuring the one or more lighting characteristics further comprises:

measuring one or more voltage or current characteristics of the second power supply.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the second power supply comprises one or more battery storage cells.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions stored thereon that when executed by one or more computers or processor are configured to perform operations for:

receiving an interrupt command, wherein the interrupt command is locally generated based on a predetermined testing schedule;

toggling an interrupt relay in response to the interrupt command, wherein toggling the interrupt relay terminates power delivery from a first power supply to a lighting array; and

measuring one or more lighting characteristics of the lighting array to determine if a second power supply can power the lighting array.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the computer or processors to perform operations for:

transmitting data based on the one or more lighting characteristics to a management system via a wireless transceiver; and

toggling the interrupt relay in response to a resume command to cause power delivery from the first power supply to the lighting array to be restarted.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the computer or processors to perform operations for:

determining a functional status for one or more lighting elements in the lighting array.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructions are further configured to cause the computer or processors to perform operations for:

computing an estimated number of charge/discharge cycles remaining for the second power supply or compute an estimated date that the second power supply will need to be replaced.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein measuring the one or more lighting characteristics further comprises:

measuring one or more voltage or current characteristics of the lighting array.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein measuring the one or more lighting characteristics further comprises:

measuring one or more voltage or current characteristics of the second power supply.
