Abstract

The present disclosure relates to an ice maker and a refrigerator having the ice maker. An ice maker according to the present disclosure includes: an upper assembly including an upper tray forming an upper chamber, which is a portion an ice chamber, and having an upper opening, and a temperature sensor configured to sense temperature of the ice chamber in contact with the upper tray; and a lower assembly being rotatable with respect to the upper assembly and having a lower tray forming a lower chamber that is another portion of the ice chamber, in which a contact portion between the temperature sensor and the upper tray is positioned closer to a contact surface of the upper tray and the lower tray than the upper opening.

Claims (57)

1. An ice maker comprising:

a first tray assembly comprising a first tray that defines a plurality of first chambers;

a second tray assembly comprising a second tray that defines a plurality of second chambers, wherein each of the plurality of second chambers is configured to, based on the first and second trays being in contact with each other, define an ice chamber with a corresponding one of the plurality of first chambers to thereby define a plurality of ice chambers between the first tray and the second tray; and

a temperature sensor disposed at the first tray and configured to sense a temperature of at least a portion of the plurality of ice chambers,

wherein the temperature sensor comprises:

a first surface that is in contact with the first tray, and

a second surface spaced apart from the first tray,

wherein the first tray comprises:

a tray contact surface configured to contact the second tray, and

a sensor accommodation part disposed between two adjacent first chambers among the plurality of first chambers, the sensor accommodation part defining a sensor contact surface that is in contact with the first surface of the temperature sensor, and

wherein a distance from the sensor contact surface to the tray contact surface of the first tray is less than a maximum distance from the sensor contact surface to an inner circumferential surface of one of the plurality of first chambers.

2. The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein the tray contact surface defines a center line extending in a first direction and passing through center portions of the plurality of ice chambers, and

wherein a first distance from the center line to the sensor contact surface in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction is less than the maximum distance in the second direction.

3. The ice maker of claim 2 , wherein the second surface of the temperature sensor is spaced apart from the first surface of the temperature sensor in the second direction.

4. The ice maker of claim 2 , wherein the first tray defines a plurality of openings that are open to the plurality of ice chambers, respectively, and configured to supply water or cold air to the plurality of ice chambers,

wherein the maximum distance is a distance from an inner circumference of one of the plurality of openings to the sensor contact surface in the second direction, and

wherein the sensor contact surface is disposed closer to the inner circumference than to the sensor contact surface in the second direction.

5. The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein the first tray assembly further comprises:

a first case that supports the first tray and accommodates at least a portion of the temperature sensor; and

a first heater disposed at the first case and configured to supply heat to the plurality of ice chambers.

6. The ice maker of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of first chambers are arranged along a first direction, and

wherein at least a portion of the temperature sensor overlaps with the first heater along a second direction orthogonal to the first direction.

7. The ice maker of claim 5 , wherein the first tray defines a heater accommodation part that receives the first heater, and

wherein the sensor accommodation part is recessed toward the tray contact surface relative to the heater accommodation part.

8. The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein the first tray assembly further comprises a first heater disposed at the first tray and configured to supply heat to the plurality of ice chambers, and

wherein the distance from the sensor contact surface to the tray contact surface of the first tray is less than a distance from the sensor contact surface to the first heater.

9. The ice maker of claim 8 , wherein the second tray assembly further comprises a second heater disposed at the second tray and configured to supply heat to the plurality of ice chambers, and

wherein the temperature sensor is disposed between the first heater and the second heater.

10. The ice maker of claim 8 , further comprising an insulator that is disposed at the sensor accommodation part and covers at least a portion of the temperature sensor.

11. The ice maker of claim 10 , wherein the insulator is in contact with the second surface of the temperature sensor.

12. The ice maker of claim 1 , further comprising an ejector configured to separate ice from the ice chamber,

wherein the first tray defines an opening configured to receive the ejector, and

wherein the sensor contact surface is disposed closer to the opening than to the sensor contact surface.

13. The ice maker of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of first chambers are arranged along a first direction, and

wherein the first tray and the second tray are configured to contact and face each other in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction.

14. An ice maker comprising:

a first tray assembly comprising a first tray that defines a plurality of first chambers;

a second tray assembly comprising a second tray that defines a plurality of second chambers, wherein each of the plurality of second chambers is configured to, based on the first and second trays being in contact with each other, define an ice chamber with a corresponding one of the plurality of first chambers to thereby define a plurality of ice chambers between the first tray and the second tray; and

a temperature sensor disposed at the first tray and configured to sense a temperature of at least a portion of the plurality of ice chambers,

wherein the first tray comprises:

a tray contact surface configured to contact the second tray, and

a sensor accommodation part disposed between two adj acent first chambers among the plurality of first chambers, the sensor accommodation part defining a sensor contact surface that is in contact with the temperature sensor,

wherein the first tray defines an opening that is in fluid communication with the ice chamber and configured to supply water or cold air to the ice chamber, the opening extending to the ice chamber and defining a boundary at an inner circumferential surface of the ice chamber, and

wherein a first distance from the sensor contact surface to the tray contact surface of the first tray is less than a second distance from the sensor contact surface to the boundary of the opening.

15. The ice maker of claim 14 , wherein the temperature sensor comprises:

a first surface that is in contact with the sensor contact surface of the first tray; and

a second surface spaced apart from the first tray.

16. The ice maker of claim 15 , wherein the tray contact surface defines a center line extending in a first direction and passing through center portions of the plurality of ice chambers, and

wherein the first distance and the second distance are defined along a second direction orthogonal to the first direction.

17. The ice maker of claim 16 , wherein the second surface of the temperature sensor is spaced apart from the first surface of the temperature sensor in the second direction.

18. The ice maker of claim 14 , wherein the first tray assembly further comprises a first heater disposed at the first tray and configured to supply heat to the plurality of ice chambers,

wherein the first tray defines a heater accommodation part that receives the first heater, and

wherein the sensor accommodation part is recessed toward the tray contact surface relative to the heater accommodation part.

19. The ice maker of claim 18 , wherein the plurality of first chambers are arranged along a first direction, and

wherein at least a portion of the temperature sensor overlaps with the first heater along a second direction orthogonal to the first direction.

20. The ice maker of claim 18 , wherein the second tray assembly further comprises a second heater disposed at the second tray and configured to supply heat to the plurality of ice chambers, and

wherein the temperature sensor is disposed between the first heater and the second heater.
